The Watch

Here we have an unworn 2023 Tissot Sideral S Blue Carbon Powermatic 80 with a futuristic 41mm black and blue marbled Forged Carbon Tonneau-shaped case that comfortably sits on your wrist with tapered lugs and a cut-out for the strap to fit perfectly between the lugs. A modern reimagining of their futuristic Fibreglass timepieces that were released in 1971. A lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 14mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence, and on the right side is a signed screw-down crown. A stainless steel ring fits between the carbon case and the black rotating bezel has white numerals and markings with a 10-minute countdown holding a domed sapphire crystal AR coated above a black dial. Outer minute numerals surround a blue minute ring with white markings and thicker batons for the hours, an inner 10-minute countdown in green and red is precisely marked, and at 3 o’clock a framed date window, slender baton hands are infilled with SuperLumiNova complemented by a red “T-Bar” second hand, at 9 o’clock we have the Tissot motif and at 6 o’clock “Powermatic 80” completes this vintage-inspired timepiece. On the reverse a screw-down exhibition case back has the details of the watch around its edge showcasing an automatic Powermatic 80 beating at 21,600 beats per hour, the movement is based on the ETA 2824-2 and has an impressive 80-hour power reserve, it is laser regulated similar to the Sistem51 movements. The watch comes paired with its 20mm blue rubber sports-style strap with quick release.

Personal Note

When this watch was announced I was super excited, having owned and sold multiple vintage Tissot Siderals over the years, I was intrigued to see how they would execute a modern interpretation of the original crazy fibreglass models! Tissot has not disappointed, bringing the model into the modern world with a super amazing carbon case, and at this price point too, amazing! Snap this one up at a great discount on RRP!

The Brand

The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements. In 1930 to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis they entered into an agreement with Omega to form the SSIH Group which 53 years later became the Swatch Group.
