Formex Swiss Watches was founded by Hans Peter Gradel and his brother Ferdinand in 1999, a family-owned watch manufacturer based in Biel/Bienne Switzerland. In 2015 Formex was taken over by Raphael Granito. Granito’s father founded Dexel SA, a supplier to the Swiss watch industry. Inspired by the engineering and mechanics of high-performance racing cars and bikes. All their watches feature a patented Case Suspension System. The name Formex is the integration of Form and Extreme as their design philosophy. Since 2016 they have moved from bricks and mortar sales premises instead of opting to sell through their online store.
This Unworn Formex Essence Leggera has a 43mm case made of Carbon Fibre composite with a titanium core, making it extremely light, designed and manufactured in-house. The patented Case Suspension System consists of 4 springs between the upper and lower watch case. This flexes as you move your wrist and provides ultimate shock absorption. Brushed and polished surfaces transition with crisp lines. The case has bevelled lugs with a 50mm lug to lug length and 12mm height ensuring a comfortable fit on the wrist. Its bezel and screw-down crown are made of scratch-proof Zirconium Oxide ceramic. A much more robust material choice than surface coatings like DLC or PVD. Flat sapphire crystal AR coated. An extremely thin forged carbon fibre dial. Slim applied baton indexes mark the hours coated in BGW9 SuperLuminova. At 6 o’clock a bevelled edged date window. Slim baton hands filled with BGW9 SuperLuminova. Text is simply painted at 12 “Formex Essence” just above the date at 6 o’clock “Automatic Chronometer”
On the reverse a sapphire crystal AR coated exhibition screwed-down case back showcasing the Automatic STP1-11 (based calibre ETA 2824-2 / Sellita SW200-1) 26 Jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, COSC Chronometer certified movement. The movement made by Swiss Technology Production owned by the Fossil Group has been customised with a skeletonised rotor, thermally blued screws and perlage finishing. Has hacking and manual winding. Fitted on a 22mm quick release black canvas strap with a patented micro-adjustment system, Essence folding clasp made of carbon fibre composite. The system allows fine adjustment while on the wrist with a push of one of the clasp pushers you can then slide the clasp forwards to loosen and backwards to tighten, for maximum convenience.
