The Watch
The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its own movements.
This Tissot Le Locle is named after their company headquarters nestled in the Jura Mountains in Switzerland. Its round 40mm 316L stainless steel case has tapering lugs and is expertly polished. A lug to lug length of 48mm ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side, a signed crown. Its polished bezel holds a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. A stunning white guilloche dial has applied Roman numerals marking the hours. Elegant leaf hands are complemented by a fine needle center seconds hand. Giving the watch a sophisticated look and feel. At 3 o’clock a date window. The text highlights the watch's heritage and movement inside. On the reverse, a decorated exhibition screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic Tissot Powermatic 80, 23 Jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. A very robust and extremely precise movement thanks to a series of modifications and the use of ARCAP, an alloy of copper, zinc, and nickel, giving it anti-magnetic properties. Fitted on its Tissot crocodile textured black 19mm leather strap with a signed butterfly fold-over clasp.
Personal Note
This watch screams value for money, produced by a Swiss brand with heritage and history going very far back and significant moments that influenced brands we think of as far higher than Tissot today! This Le Locle wears beautifully on the wrist and looks fantastic, if you need a dress watch this is the watch for you! But put this watch on a brown leather and it is insanely versatile.
