The Watch
Here we have a TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph White CV2110-0 a reissue of the Reference 2447 released in 1963, it has a 38.5mm polished stainless steel case with twisted lugs and a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, you have piston pushers and a signed crown in the centre. A polished bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal above a white dial and has a white 1/5th second chapter ring and a blue Decimeter (measures length or distance) ring, applied baton indexes are lume filled, marking the hours. Between 4 and 5 a date window, at 3 o’clock, a recessed 60 seconds register, at 6 o’clock, a recessed 12-hour register, and at 9 o’clock, a recessed 30-minute register. Slender steel sword hands with a tapered chronograph seconds hand complete this vintage-inspired recreation. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back with Carrera and TAG Heuer laser-etched into it, inside an automatic TAG Heuer Calibre 17 (ETA 2894-2), 37 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a leather strap with a signed deployment clasp and comes with its TAG Heuer box, paperwork and an unsigned guarantee card.
Personal Note
This reference is a personal favourite of mine and I believe it to be one of the most underrated mechanical chronographs from a major brand out there! The case size at 38.5mm is incredible on the wrist, the pop of blue against the silver/white works so well and it really does look like a vintage watch but with all the modern build quality we expect. Snap this gem up if you are wanting to try a Carrera without breaking the bank, but still want something cool.
The Brand
Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. Featuring many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the full. In 1958 Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company. In 1962 the first generation of Autavia was launched. Famously worn in the 1970s by Formula One driver such as Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi, Clay Regazzoni, Mario Andretti, and many more. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A. offered a bid in 1999 that was accepted by TAG Heuer.
