Points of Mention
This watch is sold with its original Stowa box and original Stowa paperwork showing the date of purchase to be November 2017. The watch is in good used condition with very few signs of wear. The watch is running well and keeping good time.
The Watch
In 1940 Stowa introduced their first ‘Beobachtungsuhr’ or B-Uhr Type A, observation watch for the Luftwaffe, certainly not the best of histories but an important one nonetheless. Stowa has reintroduced the Flieger with no branding on the dial. An all Stainless Steel case with a length of 49mm. The 40mm black dial has clear Arabic numerals 1 to 11 with a triangle and 2 dots at the 12 position. Sword hands, centre seconds hand and numerals are coated in Supa-Luminova C3 for excellent visibility in low light situations, like a cockpit. The hour markers and minute track are also lumed. An exhibition case-back allows us to view the nicely decorated ETA 2804-2 Manual wind movement with it’s blued screws. 17 jewels, beating at 28,800 BPH and a 40+ hour power reserve. The case back is secured with 6 screws giving the watch a 50m water resistance. Befitting a pilots watch, it is fitted with a 20mm riveted soft Brown Leather strap, nice patina with stainless steel buckle.
Personal Note
A 40mm Flieger watch is always a great choice and Stowa offers some of the very best, the Klassik 40 can be edited either with or without the date, logo & manually wound or automatic movement. I would easily say the configuration chosen here is the very best one! Manually wound, no date and no logo, the cleanest and simplest format, which is how it should be!
