The Watch

Here we have a Stickered 2023 Nivada F77 Brown Smoked No Date Auto with a 37mm Tonneau case that flows over your wrist, thanks to the integrated bracelet. A lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. This is a contemporary recreation of the Nivada F77 they produced in 1977, taking its design cues from the iconic Genta-designed Royal Oak. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown with deep knurling,  polished sides, and brushed top surfaces of the octagonal bezel comes complete with eight screws and holds a domed sapphire crystal above a striking Brown Smoked fumé weave textured dial, an outer minute track surrounds chamfer edged baton indexes marking the hours, steel baton hands tipped with Super LumiNova are complemented by a counterweighted sweeping second hand, at 12 o’clock we have the applied Nivada motif and at 6 o’clock “F77 Automatic” completes this stylish vintage inspired sports watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the details of the watch engraved around its edge and an embossed polished F77 Nivada motif in the center, inside an automatic SOPROD Cal. P024, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, based on the ETA 2824-2, it has hand winding and hacking seconds for your convenience. The watch comes paired with its original integrated 21.5mm 3-Link brushed stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp, all links are provided. This watch is sold with its original Nivada presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

When the Nivada F77 was announced I was instantly a fan and even more impressed with the fact that Nivada offers both a date and no-date option, putting a quick end to the "debate" of which is preferred. This Brown Smoked dial was released recently and the tone is wonderful and really suits the design, I wouldn't hesitate to snap this fully stickered example up for a nice discount on RRP!

The Brand

Nivada was founded in Grenchen Switzerland as early as 1879, but officially 1926 appears to be its foundation as in 1976 they celebrated their 50th anniversary. In 1939, Nivada built up a business deal with the New York-based Croton Watch Company to enable them to import and distribute Nivada watches within the US. This successful partnership would last for many years. Nivada Grenchen was imported and sold in the US under a number of different brand names such as Croton Nivada, Croton Nivada Grenchen, and Croton. During the 1960s and 70s, they were not allowed to use their Nivada name in the USA due to its phonetically sounding similar to Movado, so they used Nivada Grenchen instead. In 2018, two entrepreneurs in watchmaking, Guillaume Laidet, and Remi Chabrat, decided to revive the Nivada brand with its original legacy and in 2019 they obtained the licence to use the Nivada Grenchen copyright.
