The Watch
Here we have a 1545 Grey Bracelet with a 40mm brushed and polished stainless steel case, inspired by their dive watches of the 1970s which had the case designation “Y1545”. The flowing lines of the case lead to a lug-to-lug length of 48mm and a case thickness of 12mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side a large signed screw-down crown with deep knurling for extra grip. The unidirectional bezel has a grey ceramic 60-minute dive scale in large numerals holding a flat sapphire crystal AR-coated, the grey dial has an outer minute track with red accents and applied disc and baton indexes infilled with Old Radium SuperLumiNova giving it a grey appearance marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a date window, sword hands infilled with Old Radium SuperLumiNova complemented by a sweeping second hand with a red tip. At 12 o’clock we have the Squale motif at 6 o’clock the smiley “Squale” “Y1545” completes this vintage-inspired dive watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the acid-etched Squale logo and “Y1545”, inside an automatic Sellita SW200–1, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, this Sellita movement has hand winding and hacking for your convenience. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm polished and brushed stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp and comes with its Squale presentation box and paperwork. The watch comes with a 2-Year Manufacturer's Warranty.
Personal Note
The Brand
Squale was founded by Charles von Büren in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1946 as a manufacturer of watchcases and other components for other watch brands. In 1950 von Buren began to produce professional dive watches under the Squale name. During the 1960s and 70s, Squale produced cases for many brands including Prima, Blandford, Deman Watch, Berio and Sinn. In 1974 Squale decided to enter the watch market in its own right. Unfortunately like many other watch brands during the “quartz crisis” they stopped production in 1989. Relaunching the brand in 2010 the Maggi family who were previously distributors of von Buren and Squale watches in Italy. Their headquarters can be found in Milan, with watch production in Grenchen in the Jura valley Switzerland.
