The Seiko Think the Earth WN-1 has to be one of the most unusual timepieces you are likely to see. Commissioned by Think the Earth Project, an organisation to promote Earth awareness and provide aid and assistance to vulnerable children. Designed and engineered by Seiko Instruments Inc. The 45mm case is made of Titanium, it has a 24-hour etched Titanium bezel. Domed Hardlex protects the 3D globe of the Nothern hemisphere, which rotates anti-clockwise mimicking the Earths axis completing its full rotation in 24 hours. A white marker indicates the hours and rotates anti-clockwise with the Earth, the minute orange dot rotates clock-wise as an ordinary watch. Time can be best seen from a top-down position. Powering the watch is a specially designed precision Seiko quartz movement, with 3 reducing gears in the drive train necessary for the unique rotation of the globe and hands. Having a screw-down case back gives the watch 100m water resistance. The watch comes on a black urethane-coated leather called “Sophista”. The case is so designed that you can pop the watch out and place it into 2 different desk pads, for you to enjoy the watch as a unique desk clock.
Points of Mention
This watch is sold with its original Seiko Cardboard Box and original Seiko paperwork. The watch comes paired on its original Strap that is showing some signs of wear. The watch is in worn condition but is overall very good, see the photos. The watch is running well and had a battery replaced recently.
When the opportunity to sell this came up I could not say no! How absolutely awesome is this watch? In a world of brands copying their past and not being very original, this watch would have been absolutely crazy when it came out and probably not very well received! I think this has huge future collectibility potential due to how odd and fun it is!
