Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Oris box and paperwork including spare straps and accessories. The watch comes paired with its original unworn Oris bracelet, full-sized with all links. The watch is from July 2019 and is sold in hardly worn condition, was worn a handful of times off its original bracelet or provided strap, so both of those are brand new. The watch comes with its original manufacturer warranty.

The Watch

Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein.  They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925 they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. In 1982 Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog led a management buyout from Swatch Group. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.

HODINKEE has done many collaborations, this one the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Limited Edition, has a production run of just 250. First unveiled in 2015 at Baselworld the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, a heritage line up capturing the essence of their 1965 original, with the use of modern materials and movements to bring it up to date. Hodinkee in 2019 has taken the essence of the Sixty-Five and introduced design choices to make this stand out from the many versions of the Sixty-Five. A 40mm brushed stainless steel case. Crisp edged tapering lugs with a lug to lug length of 48mm and a thickness of 12mm ensures a comfortable fit to your wrist. Thanks to the use of a manual movement rather than the usual automatic 1mm have been shaved off the thickness. On the right side, a signed crown. A polished-edged uni-directional bezel has a design tweak of a “Ghost Grey” faded dive insert. Domed sapphire crystal AR coated. A soft black dial has printed “aged” Super LumiNova indexes marking the hours. Sword’s hands are treated with the same “aged” Super LumiNova. The printed text is nicely executed showing the Water Resistance. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Oris shield, Hodinkee, Limited Edition, and the number out of 250 engraved into it. Inside a manual wind Oris Caliber 730 (base Sellita 210-1) 19 Jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted with an Oris 20mm stainless steel bracelet that tapers, with a signed folding clasp and push-button release. Comes with an additional HODINKEE Sedona Strap in Black.

Personal Note

Easily one of my favourite Oris Sixty-Five models that have been made yet, the faded bezel just tops this off and the fact Oris opted for a manually wound movement, something that connects you to the watch more when winding it. Obviously, it is a lot of other peoples favourites as its sold before it even had a chance to make it to the website!
