Points of Mention
This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Oris box or original Oris paperwork. The watch comes paired on its original Oris signed jubilee band with a total length of 19cm, a leather strap can be provided. This watch is from Circa. the late 1980s, overall in very good condition, repolished but well, a new crystal has been fitted. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof warranty.
Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein. They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925 they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. In 1938 they introduced the Big Crown that was used by pilots who wore thick leather gloves and needed a big crown for making adjustments.
Our Oris Big Crown has a 32mm highly polished stainless steel case. A gentle curve of the lugs making it a comfortable fit. On the right side the distinctive big crown. A full coin edge bezel supports a domed crystal. The white textured dial has an outer date track with a center indicator hand with a half-moon in red marking the date. On top of a crosshatched pattern, applied golden Arabic numerals and dagger indexes indicate the hours. Elegant gold cathederal hands with lume infill are complemented with a sweeping second hand. On the reverse an exhibition case back showcasing an Automatic ETA 2688, 17 Jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The rotor is modified by Oris with its gold colour and machine-turned finishing. Fitted on its original 16mm beads of rice stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp.
The Oris Pointer Date has always been a fantastic watch and this being mid-size is brilliant too for those into smaller watches. Do not let the 32mm fool you, it wears bigger thanks to the thickness and lug to lug. Always great dials too and lovely details, do check out the macros on this!
