The Watch
Here, we have a NOS 2014 Weiss Standard Issue Field Watch 'LA Dial', a modern interpretation of the classic field watch. Thanks to the tapered flat-ended lugs, its 42mm brushed round case sits comfortably on your wrist. Brushed centre flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 48.5mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm. On the right side, we have a large crown with deep knurling for grip. The polished smooth bezel holds a sapphire crystal above a striking monochromatic black and white dial. An outer minute track is precisely executed surrounding Arabic numeral indices coated in SuperLumiNova, marking the hours; at 9 o’clock, we have a small seconds sub-dial with a tapered hand and clear markings, elegant sword hands are hand-painted with SuperLumiNova; at 12 o’clock we have the Weiss motif and at 6 o’clock “Los Angeles, CA” proudly stated on this distinctive field tool watch. On the reverse, a sapphire exhibition screw-down case back showcasing the manually wound Weiss Cal. 1001, 17 jewels, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour; this signed movement is based on the ETA 6497 and is finished in Côte de Genève and blued screws. It comes paired with its original 20mm unused olive drab fabric strap with a comfortable leather lining and a signed polished pin buckle, and it comes with a Weiss presentation box and booklet.
Personal Note
This is an exciting and rare opportunity to not only add a Weiss to your collection, but an early 2014 Standard Issue Field Watch Featuring the iconic 'Los Angeles' signed dial. Even more impressive is the fact this watch is in new old stock condition, having been stored away for the past 10 years, now it is ready to to worn and enjoyed. If you are considering adding this watch to your collection, I wouldn't wait around as an opportunity like this tends to only come around once!
The Brand
Cameron Weiss started making watches in his LA studio in 2013; though it’s certainly impressive to design and assemble a mechanical watch as “American made” from sourced parts, it becomes much harder doing it from scratch with an in-house movement that was finished using Swiss parts and case, something that sets Weiss apart as the only US watchmaker finishing their movements by hand. The masters at Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin have trained Cameron Weiss.
