The Watch
Here we have a Near NOS 1996 Ebel Le Modulor Chronograph Black 9137241; this creative line of watches celebrates the Ebel founding date of 1911. Its curvaceous 39mm brushed stainless steel case has rounded tapered lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 44mm and a case thickness of 11mm ensure a comfortable fit on your wrist. Down the right side, we have the chronograph pushers and a recessed crown in the centre with deep knurling for grip and a slot in the top to mimic the five screws surrounding the smooth polished bezel, a nice detail touch. A flat crystal sits above a striking black and grey sector dial. A black outer Tachymetre chapter ring surrounds a grey precisely executed minute track above polished applied Roman numerals coated in marking the hours; at 3 o’clock, we have a 30-minute register; between 4 and 5, a colour-matched date window; at 6 o’clock, a 12-hour register and finally at 9 o’clock a small seconds register, each ring in a contrasting grey with a white stick hand. Slender white hands filled with Tritium are complemented by a tapered chronograph hand; at 12 o’clock, the Ebel motif “automatic” is printed underneath, and at 6 o’clock “, Certified Chronometer” completes this dynamic sports watch. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back with the details of the watch engraved around its edge. An automatic Ebel Cal. 137, 27 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this movement has a base of the Lemania 1350. It comes paired with its original 21mm Ebel leather strap secured by a polished buckle and comes with its Ebel pouch, swing tag and paperwork.
Personal Note
It feels like Ebel is finally getting the appreciation it has always deserved among collectors today, but some models still remain mostly untapped, like this Ebel Le Modulor Chronograph featuring a striking black and grey dial and coming in near new old stock condition. All powered by the automatic Ebel calibre 137 and paired on its original strap & buckle, plus we can't forget it's Ebel pouch and paperwork from July 1996. This is a real collectors piece and not something to be missed, add it to your collection today!
The Brand
Eugene Blum and Alice Levy, husband and wife, joined their initials together (Eugène Blum Et Lévy) to form the brand name Ebel in 1911. Based in La Chaux de Fonds, the company was taken over by their son, Charles, in 1932, where he began to concentrate the business, branching out overseas before Blum’s grandson Pierre Alain took over. It was at this point, in 1932, that Ebel began creating wristwatches for Cartier. Later, Ebel became part of the LVMH Group and then Movado Group by the end of 2003.
