The Watch
Laureus was founded in response to a challenge made by Nelson Mandela at Laureus World Sports Awards Monaco in 2000 where he said: “Sport has the power to change the world” over the last 20 years they have raised more than £150m and helped over 6m children in crisis-hit areas.
This limited-edition IWC Ingenieur is limited to 1000 pieces. Polished edges and Satin brushed 42.5mm stainless steel case has a large screw-down crown on the right. A polished bezel encircles the domed Sapphire crystal with AR coating. The “Laureus” blue dial has a really nice sunburst effect with its luster. Chamfered indexes with an outer minute track made of lume pips mark the hours and minutes. Precise Dauphine hands have a lume strip down their center along with a sweeping seconds hand tipped with a red arrow. A date window at 3 o’clock finishes the dial. The text is minimalist and functional. On the back a screw-down case with an engraving of an original drawing from 8-year-old Sohel Abrar Khan from Mumbai, one of the many children who have benefited from the charity of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Inside an Automatic IWC Cal. 80111 28 Jewels 28800 Beats per Hour. Fitted on a 22mm dark blue IWC leather strap with a signed buckle.
Personal Note
IWC produce some cracking watches, this limited edition of 1000 is certainly one of them! Beautiful design, fit and feel on the wrist, whilst at 42.5mm it is a tad bigger than I would personally like, it is not obtrusive of the wrist at all. The vibrant blue dial is difficult to capture, but when you get it, it pops!
