The Watch
Here we have a Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive Green Bezel BN0155-08E with a 44mm stainless steel case that has polished and brushed surfaces that transition with crisp lines, a lug-to-lug length of 49mm, and a case thickness of 11.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side at the 4 o’clock position, we have a signed screw-down crown, protected by crown guards, Promaster symbol signifying the ISO6425 Certification. The black unidirectional dive bezel has deep knurling in sections for extra grip, a green insert 60-minute scale in silver numerals making it easy to read, and the flat mineral crystal AR coated sits above a matte black dial. An outer minute chapter ring with applied polished disc and trapezoid indexes coated in luminescence marking the hours, at 4 o’clock a day date framed window, broad arrow hands are coated in the same luminescence complemented by an arrow point tapered second-hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Citizen motif and at 6 o’clock Eco-Drive Divers 200m. On the reverse, a screw-down case back, inside a Citizen Eco-Drive Cal. E168 movement. The watch comes fitted on its 20mm Citizen black polyurethane strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Citizen presentation box, paperwork and swing tag.
Personal Note
If you are after an absolutely bulletproof watch, look no further! With this watch you can do anything and go anywhere in without worrying, it will survive whatever you throw at it. That is the attraction for so many to the Promaster range, myself included, this is what I'd want on my wrist if I was deserted on an island!
The Brand
Citizen founded the Shokosha Watch Research Institute in 1918. The name originates from a pocket watch it produced in 1924. The Mayor of Tokyo, Mr Shimpei Goto, named the watch "CITIZEN", in the hopes the watch would become a worldwide success. In 1930 the name Citizen Watch Company was introduced. In 1959, Citizen launched Japan’s first fully waterproof watch, the Parawater. During the “quartz crisis,” they developed the Eco-Drive movement in 1976. This was one of the first solar-powered watches on the market. Continuing to innovate and expand its reach In 1993, Citizen introduced the world’s first multi-band atomic watch. It uses Atomic clocks around the world to synchronise to within two nanoseconds per day. Citizen make the cases, the dial, the hands, and the movement in their Iida factory in Japan. Today the Citizen Group owns brands such as Alpina, Arnold & Son.
