The Watch

Here we have an Autodromo Group B Rally Sport Chronograph 037 for Hodinkee which is a limited edition of 100 pieces, this partnership represents a modern tribute to the vintage elegance of Rally Group B's cars, combining their form and function which created truly legendary vehicles. The 40mm tonneau-shaped case is made with a bimetal construction of stainless steel mid-case and Titanium bezel and Titanium case back, brushed stainless steel has crisp lines leading to the drilled angular lug, a lug-to-lug length of 50.5mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. Down the right side, we have the hexagonal piston chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre. The stepped brushed Titanium bezel has six notches cut into it holding a bevel-edged sapphire crystal above a dynamic midnight blue and black dial. An outer blue Tachymeter scale surrounds the precisely executed minute track with orange elements and yellow batons marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a 30-minute register, at 6 o’clock 12-hour register and finally at 9 o’clock the continuous seconds register, each with orange accents and hands. The yellow baton hands have a black line through them and are complemented by a yellow-tipped chronograph hand. The combination of the hands and dials reminds us of the dashboard dials found on those iconic Rally Group cars. At 12 o’clock we have the Autodromo motif and “Rallysport Chronograph” printed underneath, through the 6 o’clock register “Group B” completes this motorsport-inspired chronograph. On the reverse a screwed-down Titanium case back with Autodromo X Hodinkee and the number out of 100 engraved into it, inside a manually wound Sellita SW 510 MB, 23 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this movement is based on the Valjoux 7750 design. The watch comes paired with its 21mm stainless steel bracelet with a signed hidden deployment clasp and the watch comes with its Autodromo presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

Dare I say this is one of the best releases from Autodromo and one of the most restrained and refined offerings from Hodinkee? I'm a huge fan, the manually wound movements add a level of interaction that just doesn't come from automatics, the dial and colours are wonderful, and as you'd expect, the case and wear on the wrist is wonderful... Don't hesitate on this one if you are considering it!
