Here we have a 2025 Vario 1945 A-11S Solar Quartz Eagle Grey, a contemporary design inspired by the American A-11S field watch used during World War II. Vario has taken the best elements of that watch and cleverly removed the ‘War’ aesthetic, whilst keeping its tool-watch persona. Featuring a 40mm brushed marine-grade stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with tapered drilled lugs. Its curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 48mm and a case thickness of 10mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. At 4 o’clock, a coin-edged push-pull crown. The polished and brushed smooth bezel features a sapphire crystal with AR coating on the inside, set above an eagle grey sand-textured dial, which allows light to penetrate to charge the solar battery. An outer minute track features a red arrow, while Arabic numerals coated in Super-LumiNova mark the hours. Broad sword hands filled with the same lume sit majestically with a running white dot in the centre. At noon, the Vario motif completes this distinctive field watch. On the reverse, a screw-down solid case back engraved with the details of the watch around its edge and a depiction of a paper crane, a fitting tribute to Sadako Sasaki, who wished for peace by making a thousand paper cranes whilst in hospital, which was a Japanese legend for granting a wish, she was a two year old victim of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb dropped in 1945, bravely surviving for ten years she sadly got Leukemia in 1954 and passed away in 1955, a memorial statue of her holding a golden crane can be found in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Inside a Solar Miyota Cal. 2170 movement. It comes paired with its 20mm Cordura re/cor fabric strap made from recycled materials, secured by a signed pin buckle.
