A 2025 Seagull 1963 Icon II Bronze with Green Dial, a beautifully reworked interpretation of the historic Project 304 aviation chronographs developed for Chinese Air Force pilots during the 1960s. Its 40mm CuSn8 bronze case brings an entirely new character to the familiar 1963 design, developing a unique patina over time while providing a fantastic contrast against the rich sunburst green dial and cream chronograph registers. Inside sits the manually wound Seagull ST1901, a traditional column-wheel chronograph descended directly from the historic Swiss Venus 175 architecture and proudly displayed through the exhibition case back. Complete with its green calfskin strap, bronze buckle, Icon Series presentation box and paperwork, this is a particularly characterful evolution of one of China’s most important mechanical chronographs.

Description

Here we have a 2025 Seagull 1963 Icon II Bronze / Green Dial (Ref. ICON II - GREEN). This watch's design draws inspiration from the historic Project d304 aviation chronographs commissioned for the People’s Liberation Army Air Force pilots in 1963, now fully re-engineered through a premium, patina-ready modern lens. The 40mm CuSn8-grade bronze case curves over your wrist, offering a living metal finish that darkens, oxidises, and develops unique character over time. A compact lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm deliver a subtly refined profile, with smoother case transitions that compress the mid-case for an exceptionally balanced wrist presence. Down the right side, traditional pump chronograph pushers flank a substantial, gear-textured signed crown in the centre. The characteristic fixed bronze bezel is highly polished, seamlessly cradling a double-domed box sapphire crystal that delivers charming, vintage-style edge distortions while providing modern scratch resistance. The boxed sapphire crystal, multi-layered with an effective anti-reflective coating, sits above a deep sunburst green dial that shifts dramatically in shade with changing light. A clean outer minute track and a classic tachymeter scale are precisely marked, complemented by applied rose-gold-toned Arabic and triangular baton indexes, heavily filled with Super-LumiNova for excellent legibility. Paying homage to mid-century military flight instruments, the dial features a striking, high-contrast twin-register layout: at 3 o'clock sits a recessed, sand-textured cream 30-minute counter, while at 9 o'clock, a matching small seconds register handles the running time. The central hours, minutes, and sub-dial pointers are finished in matching gold tones and are fully animated by a signature, vibrant red sweeping central chronograph hand. At noon, a gold applied star sits proudly below the 12 o'clock index. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back, built with a stainless steel rim to prevent skin discolouration from the bronze, reveals an absolute mechanical treat. Inside beats the legendary Manually Wound Seagull Cal. ST1901, a direct, column-wheel descendant of the historic mid-century Swiss Venus 175 movement. Beautifully visible through the sapphire window, this 21-jewel mechanical calibre runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and features bright blue steel screws, a gold swan-neck regulator for precise adjustment. The watch comes paired with a premium 20mm green genuine calfskin leather strap featuring a soft Zermatt lining and a solid bronze pin buckle. The watch comes complete with its original Icon Series presentation box and custom paperwork.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Seagull 1963 box, swing tag and paperwork. The watch comes paired with a premium 20mm green genuine calfskin leather strap featuring a soft Zermatt lining and a solid bronze pin buckle. The watch is from Circa 2025 and is sold in worn condition, but overall, it is in fair condition, as you can see with patina on the case. The watch comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

Personal Note

That wonderful green dial contrasts perfectly against the warmth of the bronze case, and it’s only going to get better as the bronze develops its own unique patina over time. What really impresses me, though, is the value. To get a proper manually wound, column-wheel mechanical chronograph in a bronze case at this price point is quite incredible. It looks fantastic, has genuine mechanical interest and offers something genuinely different without costing a fortune, there’s an awful lot to like here. Snap it up and add it to your collection today!

About Seagull

Seagull was founded in 1955 in the city of Tianjin, the oldest industrial city in China. In 1961, the Tianjin watch factory was given the task of developing an aviation watch for pilots in the Chinese air force. The Air Force gave it a confidential code for the watches as ’Project 304’. In 1963, Seagull created more than 30 prototypes, and the official version of ‘Project 304’ was produced. In 1974, the company started to export their watches, and they changed the name in English to ‘Seagull’.
