A 2025 MAEN x Nico Leonard Grand Tonneau Jump Hour Reference MNL.02, a distinctive collaboration combining Art Deco-inspired design with one of watchmaking’s most characterful complications. Its beautifully sculpted 34mm tonneau case frames a rich Forest Green sunray dial, abandoning conventional hands in favour of a mechanical jumping-hour aperture and rotating minute display. Inside sits a customised automatic Seagull ST1721, modified by MAEN specifically to operate the unusual time display while retaining the watch’s impressively slim profile. Complete with its fitted Forest Green rubber strap, butterfly clasp, presentation box and paperwork, this is a wonderfully unconventional independent watch offering plenty of mechanical intrigue, distinctive design and personality for the money.

Description

Here we have a 2025 MAEN x Nico Leonard Grand Tonneau Jump Hour Green (Ref. MNL.02), a striking independent timepiece born from an exclusive, highly publicised collaboration with renowned watch guy and YouTube personality Nico Leonard. Released in a strictly time-limited pre-order window, this watch represents a monumental milestone for the Stockholm-based microbrand MAEN Watches, reviving a historic, high-complication layout for the modern enthusiast. The 34mm 316L stainless steel case introduces a beautifully sculpted, barrel-shaped tonneau architecture that strikes the perfect balance between vintage Art Deco elegance and bold contemporary presence. With an ultra-compact lug-to-lug length of 45mm and a svelte case thickness of just 9.5mm (9.7mm to the crystal), its fluid lines and alternating brushed and polished surfaces deliver an incredibly balanced, ergonomic, architectural wrist presence. A solid case back secured by independent screws, paired with its refined crown, delivers a dependable 50-metre (5 ATM) water resistance rating. Protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating sits a deeply captivating, double-opening Forest Green sunray dial. Moving away from a traditional hand setup to embrace pure minimalism, the dial cleanly displays the time via a classical mechanical jump-hour complication. The current hour snaps into view through a clean aperture near the top of the canvas, while the minutes track smoothly below in a dragging disk display. Adding a discreetly personal touch, the dial features the MAEN wordmark, paired perfectly with Nico Leonard’s signature Pride & Pinion crown logo, pointing toward the minute track. Beneath the dial lies the Automatic Seagull Cal. ST1721 movement, which has been custom-modified in-house by MAEN to power the jump-hour mechanics. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz), this 20-jewel self-winding calibre maintains an ultra-slim profile. This reference comes paired with its original premium, integrated-style 20mm Forest Green CTS rubber strap featuring custom quick-release pins and a matching 316L stainless steel butterfly deployant clasp; it will fit up to a 7.15-inch wrist. The watch comes complete with its presentation box and official paperwork.

Personal Note

Nico has become quite a controversial figure in the watch world, which is a shame, but here we are… Thankfully, I think this watch stands very strongly on its own merits. The tonneau case is beautifully executed, the proportions make it incredibly comfortable on the wrist, and that rich green dial paired with the jump-hour display gives it loads of character. Put the collaboration to one side, and you’re left with a genuinely interesting, great-looking mechanical watch that wears brilliantly, and ultimately, that’s what matters to me. Add this wonderful watch to your collection today!
