Description

Here we have the beautiful, now sold-out 2025 Kurono Tokyo Jubilee Sensu EOL Blue Automatic, celebrating Hajime Asaoka’s 60th Diamond Jubilee, fitted with an ‘End Of Life’ movement. Featuring a 38mm high-polished 316L stainless steel case that gently curves over your wrist with tapered lugs. Its curvaceous flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm, ensuring a comfortable fit and drawing design cues from Art Deco timepieces of the past. On the right side, a coin-edged crown capped with a unique Onyx cabochon. The polished, smooth bezel holds a box sapphire crystal, evoking the look of plexiglass crystals of the past. The beautiful dial is a pale blue shade inspired by the lightest shade of indigo, called "white indigo" ('Shiraai'), and is lacquered. Under different lighting conditions, the dial shimmers in the light as you rotate your wrist. An outer minute rail track features steel domes at the hour. The smooth outer ring is engraved with attractive black Kanji hour markers surrounding the stunning guilloche chrysanthemum wave-patterned centre. On the left side, the recessed guilloche 'Sensu' marks the Japanese fan-shaped power reserve. Kurono's distinctive sculpted, polished, hand-bent hands are complemented by a tapered teardrop-shaped, balanced sweeping second hand, finishing this elegantly understated vision of Japanese creativity and sensibility. The brand motif is found at 3 o’clock. On the reverse, a screw-down case back features the watch details around its edge and houses a now-discontinued new-old-stock automatic Kurono Cal. 9133PWT, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour; Hajime Asaoka modified this Miyota movement by removing the date function and adding a power reserve. The watch comes with its original Kurono Tokyo 20mm strap and an additional strap, and includes its original Kurono Tokyo box and paperwork.

Personal Note

For me, this watch epitomises Japanese perfection. The attention to detail, balance of the design, and sheer beauty of the dial are absolutely extraordinary. From the delicate Shiraai blue lacquer to the intricate chrysanthemum guilloché, Kanji numerals, and wonderful fan-shaped power reserve, every little detail feels incredibly considered. Nothing is there simply for the sake of it, and it all comes together beautifully. Hajime Asaoka has an incredible eye for design, and I think this is one of the finest examples of that talent. A genuinely stunning watch that proves you don't need an extravagant price tag to experience exceptional watchmaking and artistry. I would not hesitate to add this gem to your collection today!

About Kurono Tokyo

Kurono Tokyo was founded by Hajime Asaoka in 2019. He is a Japanese watchmaker, one of only two members of AHCI (AHCI — Académie horlogère des créateurs indépendants). Academy of independent watch artists, since 2015. Renowned for very low production handcrafted watches that sell for upwards of £120,000. He decided to offer a more affordable timepiece that has the same DNA as his more bespoke watches. Each watch is offered in limited numbers, and in the case of the Grand, Hagane was offered and was immediately sold out. Production is controlled through Precision Watch Tokyo Co.Ltd, the very same company that Hajime Asaoka uses for his handmade creations.
