On the right side, a coin-edged crown capped with a unique Onyx cabochon. The polished, smooth bezel holds a box sapphire crystal, giving the illusion of the plexiglass crystals of the past. The beautiful dial is in a shade of pale blue, inspired by the lightest shade of indigo called "white indigo", 'Shiraai, ' which is lacquered. Under different lighting conditions, the dial shimmers in the light as you rotate your wrist. An outer minute rail track features steel domes at the hour. The smooth outer ring is engraved with attractive black Kanji hour markers surrounding the stunning guilloche chrysanthemum wave-patterned centre. On the left side, we have the recessed guilloche 'Sensu', a Japanese fan-shaped power reserve. Kurono's distinctive sculpted, polished hand-bent hands are complemented by a tapered teardrop balanced sweeping second-hand finishing this elegantly understated vision of Japanese creativity and sensibility. The brand motif is found at 3 o’clock. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the details of the watch around its edge, inside a now-discontinued new-old-stock automatic Kurono Cal. 9133PWT, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour; this Miyota movement has been modified by Hajime Asaoka, removing the date function and adding a power reserve. The watch comes fitted on a Kurono Tokyo 20mm leather strap with a polished buckle and also comes with its original Kurono Tokyo box, travel pouch and paperwork.

Personal Note

This is the wonderful Kurono Tokyo Jubilee Sensu EOL Blue Automatic, created to celebrate Hajime Asaoka’s 60th Diamond Jubilee. The dial features the most beautiful texture and a power reserve, both contrasting perfectly against the colour of the dial. Whilst it is quite a bold and bright colour choice, it works on the wrist effortlessly. I would not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!

Academy of independent watch artists, since 2015. Renowned for very low production handcrafted watches that sell for upwards of £120,000. He decided to offer a more affordable timepiece that has the same DNA as his more bespoke watches. Production is controlled through Precision Watch Tokyo Co.Ltd, the very same company that Hajime Asaoka uses for his handmade creations.
