A 2025 Christopher Ward The Twelve Snake seconde/seconde/ Reference C12-40ADA1-S00SN, a wonderfully playful limited-time collaboration with French horological artist Romaric André, inspired by the iconic 1990s Nokia game Snake. Its beautifully sculpted 40mm stainless steel case features the distinctive 12-sided bezel and contrasting brushed, polished and sandblasted surfaces, framing a spectacular Venom Green dial with a retro pixelated texture. A mischievous 8-bit snake winds across the dial, biting into the Christopher Ward logo, while a quirky rotating display reveals six different pixelated treats. Through the sapphire exhibition case back sits the dependable automatic Sellita SW200-1, complete with a bespoke green rotor featuring another playful snake design. Paired with its matching Venom Green rubber strap and accompanied by its original presentation box and paperwork, this is a brilliantly unconventional collaboration combining nostalgic gaming references, contemporary watchmaking and plenty of humour.

Description

Here we have a super fun 2025 Christopher Ward The Twelve 40 Snake Seconde/Seconde Reference C12-40ADA1-S00SN. Released in early 2025 as a playful, limited-time collaboration with cheeky French horological artist Romaric André (better known as seconde/seconde/), this edition cleverly bypassed standard Lunar New Year zodiac clichés to pay homage to the 1990s retro Nokia mobile game “Snake”. Featuring a polished, sandblasted, and brushed 40mm stainless steel tonneau-shaped case, its profile takes many design cues from integrated icons like the Patek Philippe Nautilus and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. A highly wearable lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm ensure a sleek yet modern stance. On the right side, a screw-down, embossed, signed crown is protected by low-profile crown guards. The stepped, brushed, and sandblasted dodecagonal bezel features a polished 12-sided scalloped edge, holding an AR-coated sapphire crystal above a striking, textured “Venom Green” dial. Designed to mimic early backlit LCD screens, the 8-bit aesthetic features a three-dimensional stamped texture of repeating pixelated ‘pluses’. To give the retro reptile unhindered navigation, the dial is entirely free from traditional hour indices. Instead, a black pixelated snake slithers across the surface, humorously taking a bite out of Christopher Ward's Swiss-flag logo at 12 o’clock. Furthering the gaming theme, a unique false date window at 7:30 acts as a rotating wheel showing six different "insect treats" or "bonus bites" from the game. Brushed and diamond-polished sword hands filled with Super-LumiNova Grade X1 BL C1 indicate the time, while the lower text cheekily reads "Hiss Made" rather than Swiss Made. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back features the printed inscription “CHEERS TO THE SNAKE YEAR(S)” around its sapphire window. Inside, the automatic Sellita Calibre SW200-1 runs on 26 jewels and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is custom-adorned with a vibrant Venom Green rotor featuring another winding, pixelated snake that endlessly chases its tail as the watch winds. The watch comes with its integrated 24mm Christopher Ward Venom Green rubber strap and pin buckle. It comes in its original Christopher Ward presentation box and includes the paperwork.

Personal Note

I absolutely love it when watch brands have a bit of fun with their designs, and this Christopher Ward collaboration with seconde/seconde/ is a perfect example of that. The inspiration from the old Nokia Snake game is just brilliant, and there are so many wonderfully quirky little details to enjoy. From the pixelated snake taking a bite out of the Christopher Ward logo to the rotating insect treats where you'd normally find a date, it's clear they've had a lot of fun putting this one together! And then there's the cheeky "Hiss Made" text and that fantastic custom rotor on the back. It's the sort of watch that makes you smile every time you notice another little detail. Underneath all the fun, you've still got the excellent Twelve design, so it's a genuinely great watch too. Something completely different, and I absolutely love it! Snap it up and add it to your collection today!

About Christopher Ward

In 2005, Mike France, Peter Ellis, and Christopher Ward embarked on a pioneering venture by founding the world’s first online-only watch brand. Their journey began in an unassuming setting—a converted chicken shed located on a picturesque farm in Berkshire, England. With a vision to revolutionise the watch industry, the trio launched two initial models: the C5 Malvern Automatic and the C3 Malvern Chronograph. Shortly after the brand's debut, a significant turning point came when Dave Malone, a lecturer from Tasmania with a passion for horology, spotted an advertisement featuring their watch powered by an ETA 2824–2 automatic movement. Intrigued by the product, Malone decided to purchase one with the intention of writing a critical review for Timezone.com, one of the world’s largest online watch forums. However, contrary to his original plan, Malone's review turned out to be incredibly favourable, declaring the watch to be the “best value mechanical watch in the world.” This affirmation was a game-changer for Christopher Ward, leading to a substantial surge in sales and solidifying the brand's reputation within the watch community. Recognising the potential for growth and the need for innovation, Christopher Ward sought to enhance their offerings. In 2008, after garnering significant acclaim from industry experts and collectors alike, the company began collaborating with Synergies Horlogères, a Swiss watchmaking firm based in Biel, Switzerland. Owned by Jörg Bader, Synergies Horlogères shared Christopher Ward’s vision for creating intricately designed movements and exceptional timepieces. The collaboration marked the beginning of a rigorous period of research, design, and development. After years of hard work, the fruits of their labour were revealed in 2014 with the introduction of their groundbreaking in-house movement, Calibre SH21. This remarkable achievement was not only notable for being a high-quality mechanical movement but also for being the first innovative and financially viable movement developed by a British watch brand in over half a century. The announcement sent ripples through the watch industry, further establishing Christopher Ward as a formidable player dedicated to redefining the standards of luxury and craftsmanship in horology.
