The Watch
Here we have a 2024 Vertex M36 Armistice Day Red Dial Bronze Limited to 9 pieces, made to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of June 6, 1944, D-Day, a fitting tribute to the sacrifice many made during World War II, all proceeds from the original sale went to the Royal British Legion. The 36mm Bronze alloy case sits comfortably on your wrist thanks to the tapered screwed lugs. Its smooth curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 46.5mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm. On the right side is a coin-edged screw-down crown. The smooth domed bezel holds a double domed sapphire box-shaped crystal AR coated for that vintage aesthetic. Its distinctive burgundy dial has an outer minute track with X1 Super-LumiNova pips surrounding the characteristic moulded X1 Super-LumiNova Arabic numerals marking the hours; at 6 o’clock, we have a sub-seconds, rhodium syringe hands are filled with the same lume, at 12 o’clock in keeping with its military heritage there sits a Broad Arrow (pheon), the mark indicating British Government Issue property. On the reverse is a stainless steel screw-down case back engraved with “We Will Remember Them” and a poppy in the centre, Broad Arrow, and serial numbers. Inside an automatic Sellita Cal. SW261, 31 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour; this movement has hacking seconds and hand winding for your convenience. It comes paired with an 18mm leather strap, a brown Vertex strap with a Bronze signed buckle, an additional bronze Vertex buckle and 2 18mm Vertex NATO straps; it comes in a custom tactical Peli case and paperwork.
Personal Note
Limited to 9 pieces total, this Vertex M36 'Armistice Day' has to be on of the smallest production runs modern Vertex has done yet. Featuring an incredible deep red dial that contrasts powerfully against the Bronze case, this really does stand out from the crowd. I am super pleased to see the 36mm case in the Vertex lineup, they have chosen to keep a screw down crown and a automatic Sellta, all providing modern touches to a vintage inspired watch. I would not hesitate to add this rare gem to your collection today!
The Brand
Vertex was the brainchild of Claude Lyons of London, born in 1885. At the age of 17, he started his involvement in the watch Industry. With the help of a £1000 loan, he set up Dreadnaught Watches in 1912. In 1915 they were producing watches for the British armed forces during WW1. In 1916, he founded Vertex Watches Ltd in both Hatton Gardens and Switzerland. In 1927, Vertex became the exclusive importer of Movado Watches to the UK. 1938 Henry Lyons Claude's son-in-law joins the company. In 1940, their Hatton Gardens premises were destroyed by a Luftwaffe bomb. 1941, as a Captain in the British Army, Henry was asked to create a watch suitable for the British military. 1944 saw the production of the Cal.59 W.W.W. Nav watch. Business continued successfully throughout the 50s and 60s. Sadly, in 1972 due to the emergence of the Quartz revolution and the expiring of his lease in Hatton Gardens, Henry closed the Company. In 2015, Claude’s Great Grandson Don Cochrane re-established the Company. And the rest is history, as they say.
