About Timex

In 1854, the establishment of the Waterbury Clock Company emerged as a significant player in the horology industry. This company was at the forefront of clock and watch manufacturing, leading the way with groundbreaking innovations that included the use of brass gearing and modern assembly techniques, which greatly enhanced production efficiency and quality. The company's narrative took a dramatic turn during World War II when it was acquired by two Norwegian industrialists. Thomas Olsen, who was the owner of Fred. Olsen Shipping Co., along with Joakim Lehmkuhl. They fled Norway in 1940, alongside their families and a group of engineers escaping from the Nazis, finding refuge in America. This pivotal moment led to a strategic pivot for the company, as it transitioned towards producing fuse timers and precision components for the American military, adopting the new name United States Time Corporation. In 1941, the company adopted yet another name that would become synonymous with reliable timekeeping: Timex. Its headquarters are strategically located in Middlebury, Connecticut, USA. A remarkable milestone in Timex’s history occurred in 1933 with the introduction of the iconic Mickey Mouse watch. This whimsical timepiece captivated children worldwide and achieved remarkable sales of 2 million units. The 1950s marked the debut of the original Marlin watches, which quickly garnered acclaim for their design and functionality. Fast-forward to 1972, when Timex made a groundbreaking technological leap with the release of their first quartz watch, the Q-Timex. In 1984, Timex launched the Ironman, recognised as the world's first sports watch tailored for athletic enthusiasts. A significant advancement in user experience came in 1992 with the introduction of the Indiglo night light, a feature that revolutionised how people interacted with their watches in low-light conditions. In 1993, Timex rekindled its collaboration with Disney, creating the charming Disney Classics Collection, a line of character-themed watches that delighted fans of all ages. In 2007, Timex Group B.V., a Dutch holding company, made a strategic acquisition by purchasing the renowned Italian design studio Giorgio Galli Design Lab. The following year, in 2008, the company was fully integrated into Timex Group B.V. and was rebranded as Timex Group USA. Today, Timex continues to thrive, with its products being manufactured in the Far East and Switzerland, reflecting a blend of tradition and modernity in the world of timekeeping.
