2024 Sugess Chrono Heritage S442 Seagull ST19 'El Primero'

Here we have a 2024 Sugess Chrono Heritage S442 Seagull ST19 inspired by the Zenith A386 chronograph 'El Primero' of 1969. It's a 38mm brushed and polished stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with tapered flat-ended lugs. Its curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 45.5mm and a case thickness of 13mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. Down the right side, we have the polished chronograph pushers and a coin-edged crown in the centre. The stepped smooth bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal above a dynamic dial. An outer white Tachymeter scale sits above a black minute track, precisely executed, surrounding applied baton indexes filled with lume; at 3 o’clock a blue 30-minute register; at 6 o’clock a grey 12-hour register and finally at 9 o’clock a white running seconds, each slightly recessed with a concentric circular pattern and white stick hand. Black hands are filled with lume and complemented by a red chronograph hand. At noon, we have the Sugess motif completing this El Primero-inspired chronograph. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back engraved with the details of the watch around its edge, inside a Manually Wound Seagull ST19, 19 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour, this column wheel movement is decorated with blued screws. Tianjin bought the Cal. 175 machinery and designs from Venus and then decided to upgrade the original 17-jewel movement to this 19-jewel ST19 movement. It comes paired with its 20mm quick-release black leather strap and includes its Sugess box.

You will find a lot of people in the watch community against 'homage' watches, whilst I completely understand and respect some of their points, for some, this is the only way to experience a certain design and a great gateway to the 'real deal'. I've certainly owned, and still own, some great 'homage' watches, and a few have led me eventually to be able to get the watch they are paying homage to. If you like the design, this is a ton of watch for the money and well worth picking up, even if it's just for a bit of fun or to seriously try out an 'El Primero' design!
