Here we have a 2024 Seiko Heritage Turtle 1968 Re-Interpretation SPB317J1, made to celebrate the anniversary of the 1968 Seiko ref: 6105-8009 “Professional” dive watches, designed to be robust with a recessed signed crown, which Seiko called “anti-snag” at 4 o’clock, introduced in 1968 as a replacement for the 62MAS. A brushed 41mm stainless steel C-shaped case, nicknamed the “Turtle” resembling a Sea Turtle shell, curves over your wrist with drilled lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 47mm, and a case thickness of 12mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. The case and bracelet are coated in Diashield, a Seiko proprietary material, which gives the watch resilience to scratches and scuffs. Sitting like a cushion, Seiko gets wrist ergonomics so right on their dive watches. Down the right side at 4 o’clock, a screw-down crown sits recessed into the case for protection and a seamless profile; a unidirectional stainless steel bezel has a black 60-minute insert with silver numerals holding a domed sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside above a matte black dial. An outer minute track has applied steel baton indexes liberally filled in LumiBrite, giving them dimension to mark the hours; between the 4 and 5 is a colour-matched date window, and thick steel sword hands are infilled with the same luminance complemented by a traffic light red and white counterweighted sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock, we have the Seiko motif, and at 6 o’clock, the Prospex logo and “Automatic Divers 200m” are printed underneath, completing this vintage-inspired dive tool watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the Seiko Tsunami in the centre, inside an automatic Seiko 6R35, 24 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with its 20mm Seiko black silicone strap, and the watch comes with its Seiko presentation box, swing tag and paperwork.
