Description

Here we have an incredible 2024 Schofield Obscura Damascus Steel Limited Edition of 40 pieces. Featuring a 44mm Damascus steel case made in the USA using heavy Nazel hammers to smash together the different steels to create its unique cellular pattern. Its traditional Schofield sculpted case shape is inspired by the powerful light used in a lighthouse, acid-etched to give that spectacular finish. The high-stepped flanks lead to angled, screwed thick lugs and a comfortable lug-to-lug length of 52mm, with a case thickness of 15mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. At 3 o’clock, a black DLC-coated push/pull signed Double o-ring crown with a fine knurling for grip and a pink Super-LumiNova cap. The recessed double-dome sapphire crystal is AR-coated and sits above a stunning three-layer dark grey rhodium-plated dial. An upper layer features segments in two colours of Super-LumiNova above a minute track, and thirdly, a deep channel runs around and through the middle section, splitting it in half, with the characteristic deep-engraved zero at 12 o’clock. The hands are in two colours, with the minute hand skeletonised and the hour hand lumed; just for fun, when they align at 12 o’clock, the lume shows through the minute hand. Its seconds subdial is coloured white with a blue hand and red lollipop, a symbolic nod to its British manufacture. On the reverse, a DLC-coated screw-down case back with the details of the watch and a font of obscure ancient language, semaphore flag positions for N and D, the Schofield brand name and in the centre three grey PVD-coated sapphire domes that magnify sections of the Unitas movement underneath, their triangular formation is commonly seen in Sci-Fi and often described as UFOs, both subjects Giles is passionate about. Inside a manually wound Unitas Cal. 6498-2, 17 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour. It comes paired with two 24mm Schofield straps and one pin buckle, plus a custom 24mm yellow strap. This watch is sold with its original Schofield obscure canister-shaped box, accessories and paperwork.

Personal Note

I have been incredibly excited to bring this Schofield Obscura to the website, limited to just 40 pieces, dare I say it is Schofield's most bold and interesting watch yet. Featuring a 44mm Damascus steel case made in the USA using heavy Nazel hammers to smash together the different steels to create its unique cellular pattern, the raw feeling is present, and it is incredible up close. I would not hesitate to book an appointment to see this one for yourself, but act quickly as I suspect this won't stick around long!

About Schofield

Giles Ellis made a grand debut of his brand Schofield at the Salon QP event held in London back in 2011. The brand's headquarters are located in Sussex, which is a picturesque county situated on the south coast of the UK, just a short distance from Brighton. Ellis, a visionary watchmaker, has been instrumental in the revival of British watchmaking, which has gained significant momentum in recent years. His brand, Schofield, reflects his passion for traditional craftsmanship and is highly regarded for its precision, quality, and innovative designs. In the initial models, such as the Signalman GMT PR and its DLC variant, the brand established its identity with a combination of high-quality materials, reliable Swiss movements, and a touch of British flair. The Patinated Bronze Beater B3 demonstrated the brand's willingness to explore unique materials and finishes. In 2024, after maintaining the same core case design for almost 15 years, Schofield surprised the watch world with the Light. This new model represented a significant departure, featuring a smaller 40mm case size while staying true to the brand's commitment to functionality and meticulous construction. The Light offered a fresh interpretation of the classic field watch, incorporating subtle military influences and prioritising wearability. With the introduction of the Light, Schofield indicated its intention to expand its appeal while remaining steadfast to its fundamental principles. The brand continues to innovate, utilising high-grade materials and movements to produce enduring timepieces designed to endure the test of time.
