The Watch
Here we have a 2024 Longines Flagship White Automatic L4.974.4 with a 38.5mm polished stainless steel case that, thanks to tapered lugs, sits comfortably on your wrist. This is a contemporary reimagining of their Flagship collection, first introduced in 1957. Curvaceous flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 45mm and a case thickness of just 8mm. On the right side is a signed crown, and the stepped smooth bezel holds a sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside above a striking white dial. An outer minute track has attractive Roman numeral indexes marking the hours; at 3 o’clock, a colour-matched framed date window and slender polished sword hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand; at 12 o’clock, we have the Applied Longines motif, and at 6 o’clock “Automatic” completes this vintage-inspired dress watch. On the reverse is a screw-down exhibition sapphire case engraved with the details of the watch around its edge inside an automatic Longines Cal. L888.3, 21 jewels, 25,200 beats per hour, based on the ETA A31.L11, the movement has hacking and hand winding for your convenience. The watch comes paired with its flowing 20mm Longines 5-link polished stainless steel bracelet secured by a butterfly push button released signed clasp plus an additional 20mm leather strap and signed Longines pin buckle. The watch comes with its Longines presentation box and paperwork.
Personal Note
It doesn't get much more classic than this Longines Flagship in 38.5mm featuring a highly polished bracelet but also comes with a Longines signed buckle which we have added to a perfectly matched black leather strap for the best of both worlds. Powered by an automatic Longines Cal. L888.3 this watch offers incredible value for money from a Swiss brand with serious history and heritage, I would not hesitate to add this to your collection if you are looking for a great dressy watch that will look good on pretty much any strap due to the simplicity of the dial and case!
The Brand
Longines was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz and is considered to be the oldest registered watch brand. The Longines factory was opened in 1867 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. From this date, the name Longines was present on their dials, and the winged hourglass was engraved on their movements. After visiting the Universal Exhibition of 1876 in the United States, Longines became pioneers in mechanised production. In 1880, the brand name was filed with the Federal Office of Intellectual Property; later, their logo was registered in 1889. Their first wristwatch with a single pusher, the calibre 13.33z, was introduced in 1913. They became the official supplier for the International Aeronautical Federation in 1919. Lindbergh, the aviator and adventurer, worked with Longines to create the Hour Angle watch in 1927. Their first self-winding calibre 22A was produced in 1945. With continued innovation and technical achievements, Longines became the official timekeeper for Formula One in 1983 for ten years. In 2009, they also became the official timekeeper for the French Open at Roland Garros. Purchased in 1971 by ‘Ebauches SA’, Swiss watchmakers SSIH, who owned Omega, Tissot and Lemania and ASUAG, who owned Certina, Endura, Eterna, Hamilton, Longines, Mido and Rado. They were merged in 1983 to become the Swatch Group in 1998.
