Here we have a 2024 Kuoe Royal Smith 90-008 automatic cushion case whose profile is inspired by the antique watches of the 1940s, with its emphasis on classical design. The polished 34mm stainless steel cushion case gently curves over your wrist, featuring thick, tapered lugs. The subtly curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 41mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side is a signed slim coin-edged crown, a chamfered-edged polished bezel holds a domed crystal AR-coated above an off-white grain textured dial, an outer minute track has gold-toned markers surrounding large gold-toned hand-applied Breguet numerals marking the hours, elegant gold-toned leaf hands are complemented by a sweeping second hand, at noon we have the Kuoe Kyoto motif, and at 6 o’clock “Royal Smith” ‘Automatic’ completes this vintage-inspired, versatile dress watch. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back features the watch's details etched around its edge, housing an automatic Miyota Cal. 9039, 24 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. This premium movement features a signed rotor, hacking seconds and hand-winding for your convenience. It was there that he encountered a collection of hand-wound watches from the 1940s to the 1970s. The watches, despite being antiques, exuded a timeless warmth and charm that appealed to him. This encounter ignited Uchimura's passion for classic design, leading him to realise the universal appeal of timeless pieces. After gaining industry experience in Kyoto, a city renowned for its rich tradition, he finally established KUOE in 2020. The brand's debut model, Old Smith 90-001, was launched in April, marking the culmination of Uchimura's vision to reintroduce classic design into modern wristwatches.
