A 2024 Isotope Mercury Shadow, a striking limited edition of just 100 pieces that showcases the brand's distinctive approach to contemporary independent watchmaking. Inspired by flowing Art Deco forms, its beautifully sculpted 38mm case and minimalist silver-grey convex dial create an elegant, almost liquid aesthetic unlike anything else on the market. The absence of traditional hour markers allows the handcrafted Mercury Leaf hands and recessed small seconds display to take centre stage, while the manually wound, Swiss-based calibre adds a wonderfully tactile mechanical experience. Complete with its original suede strap, box, and paperwork, the Mercury Shadow is a refined and highly individual dress watch that perfectly blends artistic design with traditional watchmaking.

Description

Here we have the 2024 Isotope Mercury Shadow 38mm. This Limited Edition of just 100 pieces represents a sleek, monochromatic evolution of Isotope's fluid, Art Deco-inspired design language. Featuring a fully polished 38mm 316L stainless steel case, the sculpted shape and stepped, curved lugs hug the wrist comfortably. A seamless, flowing profile transitions across the case, mimicking the appearance of liquid metal. Its sculptured flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a slender case thickness of just 10mm. On the right side, a mirror-finished crown is deeply engraved with the brand's signature Lacrima teardrop logo. A thin bezel holds an anti-reflective domed sapphire crystal above a stunning silver-grey convex dial. The dial boasts a striking vertical satin-brushed finish that contrasts beautifully with a recessed small seconds frame at 6 o'clock. Distinctive hand-crafted, mirror-polished stainless steel "Mercury Leaf" hands elegantly sweep across the markerless display. On the reverse, a screw-in sapphire crystal exhibition caseback. Inside beats a manually wound Isotope Calibre I-7 (a modified and regulated Swiss ETA/Peseux 7001). It features 17 jewels, beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz), and displays a bespoke, hand-finished bridge. The watch comes paired with its original 20mm quick-release grey suede leather strap and a signed mirror-finished steel buckle. This watch is sold with its original Isotope box and Isotope paperwork.

Personal Note

I'll admit, this is one of those watches that completely surprised me once I had it on the wrist. Looking at photos, I appreciated the design, but wearing it is a completely different experience. The proportions are spot on, the case hugs the wrist beautifully, and the whole watch feels far more cohesive than images suggest. The hands have grown on me massively, too. At first, they're unconventional, but the more time you spend with the watch, the more you appreciate just how cleverly they're executed. My favourite detail has to be the sub-seconds hand, it genuinely reminds me of a tiny rocket, adding a playful touch to an otherwise elegant design. That's what I enjoy most about Isotope, they aren't afraid to do something different. I wouldn't hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!

About Isotope

José and Joana Miranda founded Isotope in 2016. Based in England, their brand name is derived from the scientific term for radioelements with unique half-lives, coined by radiochemist Frederick Soddy. Its meaning is "coming from the same place" in Greek. The word "isotope " was suggested by a close friend of his wife, Dr Margaret Todd, at a dinner party in Glasgow in 1913, and was first published in "Nature" that year. He was later, in 1921, awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. They produce uniquely designed timepieces using traditional techniques such as enamelling and thermal heating metals.
