Description

Here we have a 2024 Christopher Ward Ice Cream Twelve 38 Mint Limited Reference C12-38ADA1-S00V1-BRV, limited to just 200 pieces. The Ice Cream collection was released to celebrate International Ice Cream Day on July 21st. Featuring a polished, sandblasted, and brushed 38mm stainless steel tonneau-shaped case, its profile takes many of its design cues from the iconic Patek Philippe Nautilus and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, flowing seamlessly over your wrist thanks to the integrated bracelet. A compact lug-to-lug length of 43mm and a slender case thickness of just 10.5mm give the watch an incredibly comfortable and versatile unisex wrist presence. On the right side, a screw-down, embossed, signed crown is protected by low-profile crown guards. The stepped, brushed, and sandblasted dodecagonal bezel features a polished 12-sided scalloped edge, holding an AR-coated sapphire crystal above a vibrant, three-dimensional stamped Mint dial of repeating ‘pluses’ from the twin flag. An outer minute chapter ring surrounds applied, brushed, diamond-polished dagger indexes filled with Super-LumiNova Grade X1 BL C1 to mark the hours; at 6 o’clock, a colour-matched date window. Brushed and diamond-polished sword hands filled with the same lume are complemented by a tapered, sweeping second hand. The various surfaces play magically with the light as you rotate your wrist. At 12 o’clock, an applied Christopher double-flag motif, and at 6 o’clock, “Automatic” complete this striking sports watch. On the reverse is a screw-down exhibition case back with the details around its edge, revealing a strictly limited production run of only 200 pieces. Ticking inside is an automatic Sellita Calibre SW200-1, operating with 26 jewels and beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. This robust and reliable movement features a bespoke “Colimaçoné” finish (a twisting sunray graining), and the rotor features a double Twin-flag engraving across it. The watch comes paired with its 23mm stainless steel integrated bracelet, featuring an innovative quick-release system and a signed concealed butterfly clasp, with all links included. Tucked inside the original Christopher Ward presentation box, you will also find an additional 23mm integrated Christopher Ward mint green rubber strap with a signed pin buckle and full paperwork.

Personal Note

Another brilliantly fun limited edition from Christopher Ward, this time celebrating arguably the best day of the year... International Ice Cream Day! What's not to love about that? I really enjoy seeing brands have a bit of fun with their releases, and this Mint Green Twelve is a fantastic example. The colour is absolutely brilliant, especially against the beautifully finished stainless steel case and bracelet. It's fresh, playful and just the sort of watch that puts a smile on your face! The 38mm case is also a real sweet spot for the Twelve, wearing beautifully on the wrist, and having that matching mint green rubber strap included makes it even more fun. Limited to just 200 pieces, it's a lovely little twist on an already excellent design. I would not hesitate to add this limited edition for your collection today!

About Christopher Ward

In 2005, Mike France, Peter Ellis, and Christopher Ward embarked on a pioneering venture by founding the world’s first online-only watch brand. Their journey began in an unassuming setting—a converted chicken shed located on a picturesque farm in Berkshire, England. With a vision to revolutionise the watch industry, the trio launched two initial models: the C5 Malvern Automatic and the C3 Malvern Chronograph. Shortly after the brand's debut, a significant turning point came when Dave Malone, a lecturer from Tasmania with a passion for horology, spotted an advertisement featuring their watch powered by an ETA 2824–2 automatic movement. Intrigued by the product, Malone decided to purchase one with the intention of writing a critical review for Timezone.com, one of the world’s largest online watch forums. However, contrary to his original plan, Malone's review turned out to be incredibly favourable, declaring the watch to be the “best value mechanical watch in the world.” This affirmation was a game-changer for Christopher Ward, leading to a substantial surge in sales and solidifying the brand's reputation within the watch community. Recognising the potential for growth and the need for innovation, Christopher Ward sought to enhance their offerings. In 2008, after garnering significant acclaim from industry experts and collectors alike, the company began collaborating with Synergies Horlogères, a Swiss watchmaking firm based in Biel, Switzerland. Owned by Jörg Bader, Synergies Horlogères shared Christopher Ward’s vision for creating intricately designed movements and exceptional timepieces. The collaboration marked the beginning of a rigorous period of research, design, and development. After years of hard work, the fruits of their labour were revealed in 2014 with the introduction of their groundbreaking in-house movement, Calibre SH21. This remarkable achievement was not only notable for being a high-quality mechanical movement but also for being the first innovative and financially viable movement developed by a British watch brand in over half a century. The announcement sent ripples through the watch industry, further establishing Christopher Ward as a formidable player dedicated to redefining the standards of luxury and craftsmanship in horology.
