The Watch
Here is a 2024 Baltic Tri Compax x Tour Auto 2024 Limited Edition Set of 241/500 pieces. Made to celebrate the second year that Baltic will be the Official Timekeeper of the Tour Auto Race, a modern reincarnation of the classic Tour de France, Automobile racing from Paris to Biarritz. Each set comes with its Rally timer, presented on a plaque for attaching to your race car. The stopwatch features a Hanhart hand-wound movement with a flyback function, and the dash clock runs on a hand-wound Seagull ST3600 (Type 6497) movement. With a 39.5mm brushed stainless steel case, tapered drilled lugs that curve over your wrist, taking design cues from the racing chronographs of the 1960s by Omega, Rolex, and Heuer. A lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm ensure a comfortable fit. Down the right side, polished piston chronograph pushers and a large signed crown in the centre. The fixed bezel features a blue Aluminium insert with a light gilt Tachymeter scale and holds a double-domed sapphire crystal, adding to its vintage aesthetic. A matte, fine-grained, textured beige Tri Compax dial features a black 60-minute scale with lume pips, precisely executed, surrounding black Arabic numeral indexes that mark the hours. The Tri Compax consists of a 30-minute highlight in the official Tour Auto colours of light blue, dark blue, and red, a 12-hour highlight in dark and light blue, and a crosshair displaying seconds. Elegant, slender hands have a stripe of Superluminova BGW9 and are complemented by a tapered blued chronograph hand. At noon, we have the Baltic motif “Chronometeur Officiel”, which completes this race-inspired sports watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back features the details of the watch around its edge, and the Tour Auto logo sits proudly in the centre. Inside, a manually wound Sellita SW510-M movement, with 23 jewels, beats at 28,800 beats per hour and has hacking seconds. It comes paired with its polished and brushed quick-release 20mm Baltic Flat-Link stainless steel bracelet secured by a push-button release signed folding clasp, all links are provided, plus an additional 20mm Baltic blue Alcantara strap with a signed buckle. This watch is sold with its original Tour Auto 2024 presentation box, Rally timer, stopwatch, dash clock and paperwork.
Personal Note
Not only did Baltic go and make an impressive limited edition watch for their Tour Auto 2024, they also surprised us with a Rally Timer comprised of a stop watch and a dash clock, both beautiful objects on their own and worthy of any display. The colour choices on this dial make for a striking contrast when on the wrist, and paired with the comfortable flat link bracelet, it is a treat to wear, plus we cannot forget the additional strap that is included. As far as box sets go for watches, this has to be one of my favourites yet. I would not hesitate to add this to your collection today!
The Brand
Ettiene Malec, a Frenchman, founded Baltic in 2017. The name comes from his father’s birthplace in northern Poland near the Baltic Sea. His inspiration came after finding a suitcase full of his late father's watches with a notebook full of details about the watches. He soon after started to meet other collectors and started to collect himself. Then, seeing the huge interest in vintage timepieces, he completed a Kickstarter campaign with the Baltic HMS 001 and a Bi-Compax 001. Each watch is assembled in France near Besançon. Today, the brand continues to grow through its social media presence and its website, to offer contemporary-designed, vintage-inspired timepieces.
