Description

Here we have the 2023 Tudor Black Bay Ceramic 41mm on Strap 79210CNU. The Black Bay Ceramic was specifically made for diving purists and stealth watch enthusiasts, which meant it was built with high-tech materials and ultra-durability. A bold 41mm micro-blasted black ceramic monobloc case features tapered lugs with polished bevels that gently curve over your wrist, with a lug-to-lug length of 50mm and a thickness of 14mm, giving the watch a striking presence on the wrist. Matte and polished surfaces transition with crisp, flowing lines showcasing the modern profile. On the right side is a screw-down winding crown in black PVD-treated steel, engraved with the Tudor rose. The matching black PVD-treated steel unidirectional rotatable bezel features a 60-minute graduated disc in black ceramic with a sunray satin finish and engraved markings. A domed sapphire crystal sits above the matte black dial; an outer minute track surrounds the applied, iconic disc-and-baton indexes filled with high-grade luminescent material that mark the hours. Tudor branding sits proudly below 12 o'clock with “Tudor Geneve”, balanced at 6 o’clock by the Black Bay and Master Chronometer. The signature black "Snowflake" hands are filled with matching luminescent material, complemented by a sweeping second hand. On the reverse, a screw-down black PVD-treated steel case back. Inside the automatic Tudor Cal. MT5602-1U inside, featuring COSC and METAS Master Chronometer certification. METAS Master Chronometer certification is thorough and assesses key functional characteristics of a watch, including precision, magnetic field resistance, waterproofing, and power reserve. The watch comes paired with its hybrid leather-and-rubber strap with a folding clasp in black PVD-treated steel, plus a Tudor NATO strap. This exceptional timepiece comes complete with its Tudor presentation box, swing tag, and papers.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its Original Tudor box and paperwork. The watch comes paired with its hybrid leather-and-rubber strap with a folding clasp in black PVD-treated steel, plus a Tudor NATO strap. The watch is from January 2023 and is in worn condition, but it is a clean example. It is in very fair condition, as you can see from the photographs and comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

Personal Note

The more watches I handle, the more I appreciate just how good Tudor's value proposition has become, and this Black Bay Ceramic is a perfect example. If this watch had a different logo on the dial, many people would happily expect to pay significantly more for a ceramic-cased, METAS-certified dive watch of this quality. What I particularly like is that it feels very Tudor in its execution. Rather than simply reissuing heritage pieces over and over again, Tudor has been willing to experiment with materials, colours, and technology while still retaining the core DNA that makes their watches so appealing. The ceramic case, stealthy monochrome aesthetic, and Master Chronometer certification all feel modern, but the watch never loses that rugged tool-watch character. I would not hesitate to add this stealthy watch to your collection today!

About Tudor

Swiss watchmaking company “Veuve de Philippe Hüther”, on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex watches, first registered the Tudor trademark in 1926. Wilsdorf took it over himself in 1936. Soon after the Second World War, Hans Wilsdorf, who founded Rolex, knew that it was time for Tudor to have a proper identity of its own. The Tudor Rose started to appear on their dials from this moment. On 6 March 1946, he founded the company “Montres TUDOR S.A.”, producing watches for both men and women. Rolex guaranteed the overall design aesthetic, as well as distribution and after-sales service. In 1948, we saw the first Tudor-specific advertising. A few years later, they introduced the TUDOR Oyster Prince in 1952. Hans Wilsdorf allowed Tudor to use their waterproof Oyster case and the original self-winding Perpetual ’rotor’ movement. This was an exclusive arrangement that benefited both brands. Development soon commenced with the introduction of the TUDOR Oyster Prince Submariner, reference 7922, in 1954. This watch was quickly adopted by the French Navy in 1956. Building on their reputation of robustness in 1961, the Rose was replaced by the shield. Later in 1969, we saw the design changes in Ref. 7016, where, for the first time, square indexes and angular hands nicknamed “snowflake” allowed for a greater amount of lume to be applied; the divers of the French Navy appreciated this. Today, these innovations can be seen in the Black Bay and Pelagos collections. In 1971, Tudor introduced the Oysterdate chronographs, nicknamed “Monte-Carlo” for their resemblance to a roulette wheel. Celebrating their 50th anniversary in 1996. In the same year, Tudor decided to replace Rolex-signed components such as cases, crowns, and bracelets with Tudor-branded ones. Today, Tudor uses their in-house movements developed initially in 2015 in collaboration with Breitling.
