The Watch

Here we have a 2023 Super-Squale Sunray Black on Bracelet, a recreation of the Charles Von Büren designed "Super Squale" of the 1960s whose trademark was registered in 1959 at the same time he registered the Squale brand name, quickly becoming one of their most popular watches. The 38mm brushed stainless steel case has thick straight-ended lugs with a 45mm lug-to-lug and a 12mm case thickness, ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist, on the right side a signed screw-down crown with deep knurling for extra grip. A Unidirectional steel bezel has a deeply engraved dive insert, and the numerals and markings are painted in black with the characteristic lume pip at 12, holding a double domed sapphire crystal AR coated above a striking sunray black dial. Applied trapezoid and lumed disc indexes mark the hours coated in old Radium SuperLumiNova for that vintage aesthetic. Steel sword hands infilled with old Radium SuperLumiNova complemented by a lollipop counterweighted sweeping second hand. At 12 o'clock we have the Squale motif printed with "20 Atmos" Super and a smiley Squale underneath at 6 o'clock complete this vintage-inspired recreation of their classic dive watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the model details engraved into it, inside an Automatic Sellita SW 200-1, 26 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with an 18mm polished and brushed stainless steel beads of rice bracelet with a signed folding clasp and the watch comes with its Squale presentation box, travel pouch and paperwork.

Personal Note

An incredible new release from Squale, this Super-Squale offers vintage inspiration executed with modern build quality and reliability! The case size wears perfectly on a large range of wrist sizes and the beads of rice bracelet is incredibly comfortable. This is one well worth considering if you are in the market for a vintage-inspired "Skin Diver" that won't break the bank!

The Brand

Squale was founded by Charles von Büren in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1946 as a manufacturer of watchcases and other components for other watch brands. In 1950 von Buren began to produce professional dive watches under the Squale name. During the 1960s and 70s, Squale produced cases for many brands including Prima, Blandford, Deman Watch, Berio and Sinn. In 1974 Squale decided to enter the watch market in its own right. Unfortunately like many other watch brands during the “quartz crisis” they stopped production in 1989. Relaunching the brand in 2010 the Maggi family who were previously distributors of von Buren and Squale watches in Italy. Their headquarters can be found in Milan, with watch production in Grenchen in the Jura Valley Switzerland.
