Here we have a 2023 Studio Underd0g 02SERIES Pink Lem0nade featuring a brushed 37mm stainless steel case that gently curves over your wrist with tapered drilled lugs and a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 12mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side is a signed crown. A smooth, polished bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal above a superbly crafted full-lume Pink Lem0nade sandwich dial; the transparent 1mm sapphire disc sits above the brass plate, which has seven layers of custom-made Super-LumiNova pigment secured by two screws, the sapphire disc features an outer minute rail track surrounding Arabic numerals marking the hours, giving the impression they are floating above the dynamic dial and creating a shadow on the base layer. Slender baton hands filled with Super-LumiNova are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand; at noon, we have the Studio Underd0g motif, and at 6 o’clock, “Mechanical Hand Winding" completes this stunning field watch. On the reverse, there is a screw-down case back with the watch details around its edge and an embossed jellyfish in the centre, housing a manually wound Sellita SW210, 19 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. It comes paired with a quick-release 18mm suede strap handmade by The Strap Tailor, a signed pin buckle, and an 18mm NATO strap. Richard Benc, the founder of Studio Underd0g, studied product design at the University of Nottingham. He then began working in the watch industry for over five years, where he worked on many designs. The concept of the brand, Studio Underd0g, was founded in March 2020, whilst the UK was still under lockdown due to COVID-19, and a funky design and colour combination was the way to go. The brand was officially launched in March 2021. The brand name came about as he saw himself as a small fish in a large sea with much bigger ideas and aspirations. He replaced the small “o” in Underdog with a “0”, which is now part of their brand identity. Inspired, he created a fun and playful watch, using colour, textures, and design cues to stand out from the crowd. Releasing three series of watches as well as some special additions, each with its own unique design. 01Series is a selection of two pusher chronographs with quirky colourful dials, 02Series is a selection of colourful lumed dial, field style watches, and 03Series is monopusher chronographs. The special additions include collaborations with brands like Moser & Cie and Fears, partnerships with perpétuel Gallery Dubai and Andrew McUtchen, as well as multiple unique models and pieces, with proceeds supporting multiple charity organisations.
