Here we have a 2023 Sidereus Newgrange Limited Edition Automatic 44mm, a poetic and beautifully sculptural Irish timepiece. Hand-assembled, regulated, and tested in Ireland, this rare collectable is part of a strictly limited series of only 50 pieces per variant worldwide. Designed by co-founder Bryan Leech, the watch pays tribute to the Neolithic grand passage tomb of Newgrange at Brú na Bóinne, infusing 5,000 years of Irish astronomical heritage into contemporary horology. The 44mm stainless steel case features an ingenious two-part construction, with the side profile echoing the sweeping, organic lines of the ancient Newgrange tumulus itself. A balanced lug-to-lug length of 50.5mm and a remarkably slender case thickness of 11.5mm afford a commanding yet highly comfortable, ergonomic wrist presence. Polished and brushed facets blend seamlessly across the case, flanking a bespoke signed screw-down crown that ensures everyday water resistance up to 50 metres (5 ATM). A scratch-resistant, double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment caps the piece. It rests above a two-tier, slightly domed dial adorned with subtle radial lines that emulate ancient solar alignments. Highly legible Super-LumiNova C1 index markers encircle the perimeter, while a clean date window sits neatly at the bottom of the dial. Proprietary, polished nickel-plated brass hands, tapered and semi-skeletonised, keep time, complemented by a brilliant orange centre seconds hand with a cruciform counterpoise inspired by the inner chamber of an ancient tomb. On the reverse, a screwed-down sapphire crystal exhibition case back proudly reveals the inner movement ring, which is meticulously laser-engraved with the optimistic Irish phrase: "Towards longer days and shorter shadows." Inside beats a modified, Swiss-made automatic Sellita Cal. SW200-1 movement. Hand-regulated in six positions to Élaboré standards, this 26-jewel calibre operates at a high frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and features a custom Sidereus rotor. This exclusive reference comes paired with two Sidereus 24mm premium leather straps, secured by a custom-designed stainless-steel pin buckle featuring the five-pointed Sidereus star logo. Sidereus Watches was established in Ireland in 2018 by product designers Bryan Leech and Martin Marley. The brand evolved from prototype showpieces into a commercial entity inspired by Neolithic timekeeping. The initial designs were unique creations made by Bryan Leech for "Timelines," a retrospective exhibition for ID2015 (Year of Irish Design). After developing three initial working prototypes, a comment from Giles Ellis, the founder of Schofield Watch Company, motivated the founders to refine the timepieces for production. Sidereus officially launched its first collection, the Brú na Bóinne, in March 2019. This collection pays tribute to the ancient megalithic monuments of Newgrange, Knowth, and Dowth. The timepieces are equipped with modified Swiss-made automatic movements, which are hand-built, regulated, and tested in Ireland.
