2023 Schofield B5 Japanese Sakura Automatic 44mm

Here we have an exquisite 2023 Schofield B5 Japanese Sakura Automatic, Limited to 29 pieces, with a 44mm sculpted stainless steel case expertly textured by vapour blasting. Its industrial design adds character and uniqueness to the watch. Sloping wide screw-in lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 52mm and a thickness of 14.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, a deeply knurled double o-ring pull-out crown with a gold ring. A smooth bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal with 9-layer AR coating. An outer ring in a pale green is made of a specially commissioned custom SuperLumiNova C3. The sector dial has an outer muted blossom ring with applied numeral and dagger indexes marking the hours, coated in C3 SuperLumiNova. An inner minute track surrounds its paler, muted blossom centre, a nice contrast, and brushed-gold skeletonised sword hands with SuperLumiNova C3 tips. On the centre, the cap has a lollipop balance, which they call the “Sign-of-Life” second hand. At 12 o’clock, the Schofield logo. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. The intricate engraving is a stylised old plum tree in sterling silver and glass enamel inspired by a Fuchū manhole cover. Inside is an automatic STP 1-11, 26-jewel, 28,800 beats-per-hour movement; it was first released in 2012 and features hand-winding and hacking for your convenience. The watch comes fitted with its used 24mm Schofield plum-coloured canvas strap with a large buckle, plus a new Red Quality Street, Cracknell Schofield strap. The watch also comes with its Schofield presentation box and papers.

This is easily one of my personal favourite Schofield watches. From the muted Sakura-inspired colours and custom lume to the little gold details and quirky “Sign-of-Life” seconds hand. What I particularly love is where Schofield takes its influence from. Turning something as unexpected as a Japanese manhole cover into that incredible sterling silver and enamel case-back design perfectly sums up the brand for me. Inspiration can come from absolutely anywhere, and Schofield has a brilliant ability to turn those influences into something genuinely original. With only 29 pieces made, it’s a wonderfully unusual bit of British independent watchmaking and a Schofield I’d happily have in my own collection. Schofield's brand reflects his passion for traditional craftsmanship and is highly regarded for its precision, quality, and innovative designs. In the initial models, such as the Signalman GMT PR and its DLC variant, the brand established its identity with a combination of high-quality materials, reliable Swiss movements, and a touch of British flair. The Patinated Bronze Beater B3 demonstrated the brand's willingness to explore unique materials and finishes. In 2024, after maintaining the same core case design for almost 15 years, Schofield surprised the watch world with the Light. This new model represented a significant departure, featuring a smaller 40mm case size while staying true to the brand's commitment to functionality and meticulous construction.
