The Watch

Here we have a 2023 Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition Titanium made in collaboration with the colourful character Disney's Kermit the Frog, with a 39mm brushed Titanium case that curves over your wrist with flat-ended tapered lugs, chamfered edges lead to a lug-to-lug length of 46.5mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side a signed screw-down crown protected by crown guards. An attractive turbine-contoured smooth bezel holds a double domed sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside above a Frog green grain textured dial, an outer minute track surrounds baton indexes coated in Superluminova marking the hours, at 6 o’clock we have a date window, and every 1st day of the month a smiling Kermit appears as a reminder to relax and chill for just one day. Slender Alpha hands are infilled with the same luminance and complemented by a sweeping tapered second-hand. At 12 o’clock the Oris motif and at 6 o’clock "Propilot X" "5 Days' completes this fun minimalist pilot watch. On the reverse, a screw-down coin-edged exhibition case back, inside an automatic Oris Cal. 400, 21 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this movement is their 2nd in-house design with twin barrels and a 5-day power reserve, the use of silicon makes the movement antimagnetic, it has a skeletonised rotor and hacking seconds. The watch comes fitted on a brushed 19mm Titanium bracelet with chamfered sides and a signed folded deployant clasp, all links are provided and the watch comes with its Oris presentation box, swing tags and paperwork.

Personal Note

The Oris Kermit! A watch that reminds us to smile on the 1st of every month by presenting us with Kermit's big grin at 6 o'clock for the date, what is there not to love about that? The colour of this dial is near impossible to capture as it has the most incredible hue of green, bordering on fluorescent yellow, I have ever seen used on a watch, though I would say that is to be expected with the fact this is the Oris Kermit ProPilot X! Don't hesitate to book an appointment to see this watch for yourself in the titanium!

The Brand

Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein.  They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925 they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog headed a management buyout from Swatch Group in 1982. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.
