The Watch

Here we have a 2023 Ming 37.08 Sand Limited to 500 with a beautifully sculpted 38mm polished and brushed stainless steel case, curvaceous flared lugs lead to a comfortable lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm. On the right side is a large signed crown with deep knurling for grip, and a thin bezel holds a double-domed sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides. The star of the show is the incredible undulating wave dial 3D CAD designed, inspired by the gentle motion of sand in shallow waters lapping against its shore or windswept dunes carved in the desert; a CVD-coated brass base is stamped using a unique special relief tool, it is then coarse grain blasted, galvanised with a layer of lacquer to achieve the subtle golden tones. The distinctive Ming hour markings are applied by laser to the underside of the crystal with a coating of HyCeram lume, a ceramic polymer, giving the illusion of floating above the dial. The Ming sculpted hands have an application of Super-LumiNova X1, giving them a subtle golden hue. The Ming motif sits at 6 o’clock, completing this mesmerising naturalistic dial. On the reverse is a screwed-down exhibition case back with the details of the watch engraved around its edge, inside a manually wound Sellita SW210.M1, 19 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, the movement has a skeletonised rotor and is exquisitely finished in Anthracite and Rhodium-brushed bridges. The watch comes paired with its 20mm grey Jean Rousseau calf leather strap secured by a signed tuck buckle with micro-adjustments, and the watch comes with its Ming presentation box and paperwork.

I am in the process of reading the Dune series and this dial embodies the landscapes that are beautifully described within the book, dynamic with the light, but that's enough of that!
