A 2023 Méraud Antigua “Soft Sand”, one of just 100 pieces produced, blending the character of a 1960s racing chronograph with a genuinely fascinating piece of vintage mechanical history. Its beautifully proportioned 40mm case frames a warm pastel-toned dial, brought to life by contrasting blue and orange details, old-radium lume and a distinctive 45-minute chronograph register. The real surprise is inside: a genuine vintage Landeron Calibre 248 from the 1960s, meticulously restored and hand-decorated specifically for this limited edition. Complete with its unworn Méraud bracelet, two additional straps, presentation box, travel pouch and paperwork, this is a wonderfully considered independent chronograph combining modern usability with an authentic vintage mechanical heart.

Description

Here we have a 2023 Méraud Antigua "Soft Sand" Manual Limited Edition of just 100 pieces, in 40mm. This watch's design draws inspiration from the golden age of racing chronographs from the 1960s, blending a refined vintage aesthetic with a beautifully restored, historical heartbeat. The 40mm stainless steel case curves over your wrist, featuring elegant, polished bevels and sharp, brushed flanks that transition with crisp chamfered lines. A lug-to-lug length of 48.5mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm give the watch a classic, perfectly proportioned wrist presence. Down the right side, we have traditional pump chronograph pushers and a signed, grippy crown in the centre. The characteristic bidirectional rotating stainless-steel bezel features a 60-minute insert. The domed sapphire crystal, AR-coated on the inside, is set above a warm, pastel-toned "Soft Sand" dial that radiates a beautifully aged, tropical feel. An outer tachymeter scale and minute track are precisely marked, complemented by printed baton indexes in a custom "old radium" Super-LumiNova marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, an oversized and recessed 45-minute register features a prominent white hand with the 15-minute regatta yachting or racing countdowns; at 9 o’clock, an orange-ringed recessed small seconds register features a pale blue hand. The central hour and minute hands are finished in matte black, filled with matching vintage Super-LumiNova, complemented by a vibrant orange lollipop chronograph hand. At noon, the cursive Méraud motif sits elegantly on the dial above Antigua 100m. On the reverse, a sapphire crystal display case back exposes a truly special horological artefact. Beating inside is a manually wound Landeron Cal. 248, a legendary vintage Swiss movement from the 1960s that has been meticulously overhauled, restored, and hand-decorated with perlage and Geneva stripes specifically for this edition. Operating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour, this historic 17-jewel calibre offers a tactile, mechanical winding experience and a 41-hour power reserve. The watch comes paired with an unworn Méraud bracelet plus two additional straps. The watch comes complete with its original Méraud presentation box, travel pouch and paperwork.

Personal Note

I really like what Méraud has done with the Antigua. The design is fantastic in its own right, with that warm 'Soft Sand' dial and little flashes of blue and orange giving it loads of vintage character without feeling like a straight recreation of something from the past. But the real highlight for me is the decision to use genuine vintage Landeron 248 movements from the 1960s, then restore and decorate them for these watches. A brilliant idea, beautifully executed, and with only 100 pieces made, something genuinely quite special. Add this vintage/modern gem to your collection today!
