The Watch

Here we have a 2023 King Seiko “Kameido-Kikko” Limited Edition SPB365J1, a modern re-creation of their 1965 King Seiko KSK, which is limited to 0925/1200 pieces, it was inspired by the birthplace of King Seiko Kameido, Tokyo, which was once an island shaped like a turtle shell. On the right side is a signed crown with deep knurling for extra grip. The stepped polished and brushed smooth bezel holds a box-shaped sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside above a stunning dark brown gradient dial, textured in a repeating three-inset hexagonal pattern inspired by the shell of the divine native Japanese pond turtle; an outer minute track has applied steel baton indexes with faceted surfaces brushed and Zaratzu polished, that plays with the light as you rotate your wrist, elegant Dauphine hands sharp edges are Zaratzu polished for an incredible finish complemented by a gold-toned tapered sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock, an applied gold-toned Seiko, and at 6 o'clock, “King Seiko Automatic '' printed to complete this striking modern re-creation. Personal Note

King Seiko has provided a wonderful option for those looking at this price range, typically more than most Seiko and considerably less than most Grand Seiko, but yet I feel they are still often overlooked and underappreciated by collectors. This King Seiko “Kameido-Kikko” Limited Edition, reference SPB365J1, is the perfect example of that featuring the most wonderful dial that is even better in person, this watch perfectly portrays when King Seiko can be at this price point. Do not hesitate to add this to your collection today!

The Brand

Seikos' history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892, Seikosha was established to make wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924, the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959). In 1956, Seiko launched Marvel as their first actual in-house watch; they continued to make this watch until 1959. Japan’s first chronograph watch was introduced for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics; it was called the Seiko Crown Chronograph monopusher. Not stopping there, Seiko launched Japan's first actual divers watch, the Seiko Diver’s 150M fitted with the automatic Caliber 6217, which later was given the nickname “62MAS” by collectors. The company name was changed to the Seiko Corporation in 1990. Innovation at Seiko continues today with GPS Solar watches.
