The Watch

Here we have a 2023 Formex Reef Radiant Bronze 300M For Collective Horology a collaboration between brands and enthusiasts in the US, since their founding in 2018 they have worked with Czapek, URWERK, IWC Schaffhausen, Zenith, H. Moser and many others on two distinctive projects which are the Collective Series and Portfolio Series, these watches are made available to the Collective members through their shop. The 42mm brushed 316L stainless steel case curves over your wrist with sharp-angled chamfer-edges tapered lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 48.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown with deep knurling for extra grip and is protected by crown guards, on the left side the case mirrors the shape of the crown guards giving it a symmetrical appearance. The unidirectional stainless steel bezel has a matte black ceramic dive insert, raised polished numerals and markings that add dimension to the insert. A flat sapphire crystal AR coated sits above the star of the show a vertically brushed radiant bronze dial that has been coated in a lacquer to prevent natural oxidation, the bronze plays with the light as you rotate your wrist. An outer minute track has applied steel dagger-shaped indexes infilled with BGW9 Super-LumiNova marking the hours, at 6 o‚Äôclock a deep recessed date window. The stubby steel hour and slender minute hands are infilled with the same lume and are complemented by a sweeping lollipop counterweighted second-hand. At 12 o‚Äôclock we have the applied Formex motif and at 6 o‚Äôclock ‚ÄúReef Chronometer 300m‚ÄĚ completes this striking dive watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Formex motif and wave pattern engraved in the centre, inside an automatic Sellita SW300-1, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, the movement is Chronometer Certified and has hacking seconds, quickset date and hand winding for your convenience. The watch comes paired with a Formex 22mm brushed stainless steel bracelet with a signed push-button released deployment clasp, all links are provided, and a Formex fitted rubber strap, the watch comes with its Formex presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

I have been consistently impressed with the offering from Formex, the build quality and overall feel of their watches are fantastic and their designs I really like too! So when this Collective limited edition was released I was definitely intrigued, the beautiful tone of bronze is incredible, but so quickly lost with the development of patina, Formex has applied a clever solution to the dial to keep it this tone and stop the patina, plus you still get that incredible colour and depth that bronze provides! I wouldn't hesitate on this one if you are interested, snap it up today.

The Brand

Formex Swiss Watches was founded by Hans Peter Gradel and his brother Ferdinand in 1999, a family-owned watch manufacturer based in Biel/Bienne Switzerland. In 2015 Formex was taken over by Raphael Granito. Granito’s father founded Dexel SA, a supplier to the Swiss watch industry. Inspired by the engineering and mechanics of high-performance racing cars and bikes. All their watches feature a patented Case Suspension System. The name Formex is the integration of Form and Extreme as their design philosophy. Since 2016 they have moved from bricks and mortar sales premises instead of opting to sell through their online store.
