Here we have a 2023 Duckworth Prestex Vernimatic Orange Fume Limited, individually numbered out of 035/500 pieces. Featuring a 39mm polished and brushed stainless steel cushion case that sits comfortably on your wrist, thanks to the sculpted lugs. The curved, polished, chamfered-edged flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 46.5mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm. On the right side, there is a deeply knurled, signed screw-down crown. An attractive bevel-edged concave bezel encloses a double-domed sapphire crystal, AR-coated on the inside, above the dynamic orange fumé textured dial. The outer minute rail track, featuring blue accents, surrounds bold Arabic indices coated in BGW9 Super-LumiNova, marking the hours. Polished and brushed hands filled with the same lume are complemented by a blue arrow pointed sweeping second hand, ‘Duckworth Prestex’ is proudly printed at noon, and at 6 o’clock, ‘Vernimatic Self Winding’ completes this distinctive timepiece. On the reverse, a screwed-down solid case back is engraved with the details of the watch around the edge and in the centre, featuring the Duckworth Prestex logo and the 035/500. Inside an automatic Miyota 9039, 24 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. Introduced in 2018, it is part of the Miyota Premium range of movements. It has both hand-winding and hacking functionality. Neil Duckworth had long wanted to revive Prestrex Watches. In 2021, he finally made his dream a reality by renaming the brand Duckworth Prestex. He previously introduced TAG Heuer to the UK in the 1980s and served as the UK managing director until 2001. The Duckworth family business, Prestons of Bolton, was founded in 1869 and started manufacturing pocket watches under the Prestex name by 1924. Prestex produced a variety of timepieces, including chronographs and dress watches. Following Gordon Duckworth’s takeover of the business in 1948, the company expanded its offerings to include Swiss watches from brands such as Omega, Rolex, and Heuer. Prestex watches were discontinued in 1965, but Prestons continued operations, with Neil's older brother, Andrew, taking over in 1982. Duckworth Prestex watches are designed in England and draw inspiration from the original Prestex models.
