The Watch
Here we have a 2023 Brew Metric Steel Dial Chronograph RTR026 with a 36mm square cushion 316L stainless steel case, a lug-to-lug length of 41.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm ensuring a comfortable fit, polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp edges. The case flows over your wrist towards the integrated bracelet, the soft rounded edges remind us of the watches of the 1970s. On the right side, we have the chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre, the bevel-edged stepped smooth bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a steel vertically brushed dial. An outer 60-minute scale in blue with a grey section at the bottom to allow you to countdown the perfect Espresso shot at 25-35 seconds. During the 1930s a particular chronograph was produced which had markings at the 3-minute mark on the sub-dial and was nicknamed “Telephone Timers' due to the fact that after 3 minutes you had to put another coin in to continue the call. Brew has adapted this timing method to highlight the optimum extraction time for the perfect espresso with a time ranging from 25 to 35 seconds which is dependent on the type of machine you are using. Lume pips and applied double baton indexes infilled with SuperLumiNova BGW9 mark the hours, between the 4 and 5 a framed date window. At 6 o’clock a 60-minute register, recessed and between the 9 and 10 a small seconds register, recessed with black 10-second segments and a blued hand. The long baton hands infilled with SuperLumiNova BGW9 are complemented by a blued tapered chronograph hand. The blend of funky colours and offset registers makes this watch stand out from the crowd, at 3 o’clock a debossed Brew motif. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back with horizontal patterning and the Brew motif embossed in the centre, inside a Hybrid VK68 Meca-Quartz made by Seiko Instruments, part of the hybrid mechanical quartz (meca quartz) movement line, it is a chronograph movement that uses quartz technology for the main operation and functions of the watch and a mechanical module for operating the chronograph, it gives you the snapback of a mechanical chronograph and the accuracy of quartz. The watch comes fitted on its Brew 20mm integrated stainless steel bracelet with brushed and polished bevel edges and a signed folding clasp and comes with its Brew presentation box, travel case and papers.
Personal Note
As a lover of 1970s watches and their unique design, this Metric instantly caught my eye when originally released and I have since owned a few personally and stocked them on the site, so believe me when I say they offer a ton of charm and fun for the money, this "Steel Dial" being no exception! Snap this up if you are interested, you won't regret it.
