Here we have a rare 2023 Bremont Hawking Limited Edition of 284/388 automatic featuring a 41mm stainless steel case made up of Bremont's innovative Trip-Tick construction, its case has a rubber sandwich construction, making it resistant to extreme external conditions and coated in scratch-resistant black DLC. The Bremont Hawking Limited Edition Collection, released in 2020, pays tribute to the late Stephen Hawking, the British scientist whose research on time revolutionised our understanding of the universe and beyond. The stylised undercut-shaped lugs have a lug-to-lug length of 49mm and a case thickness of 14mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. The screw-down decorated high-domed crown has deep knurling for grip. A polished, smooth bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal AR-coated above a dynamic sector-style matte black and grey dial. A white 360-degree chapter ring features the astronomical section marked as “Sunlight Travel”, which represents the time it takes for light to travel from the sun to reach the Earth's surface, approximately 8 minutes and 20 seconds. Applied polished bevelled baton indexes filled with Super-LumiNova mark the hours, and the black etched spiral central disc represents a black hole, a phenomenon close to Hawking's heart as he studied them for many years. At 12 o’clock, we have the double big date framed window and at 6 o’clock, a 120-degree arc 30 seconds retrograde. Nickel syringe hands are filled with Super-LumiNova, and at 12 o’clock, we have the Bremont motif completing this astronomical celebration of Hawking. On the reverse, a screwed-down sapphire exhibition case back with the details of the watch around the edge and the black PVD-coated stainless steel plate is decorated with four wooden panels from a William & Mary oak sloping desk belonging to Hawking, a Muonionalusta meteorite sample and a serial number laser engraved on a piece of his 1979 research paper “The ‘nuts’ and ‘bolts’ of gravity.” The etched star constellation represents the night sky over Oxford on the night of Hawking's birth, including the title of his famous book “A Brief History of Time.” Inside an automatic Modified Calibre 11 ½''' BE-36AE, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this modified movement has a base of the ETA 2836-2. The watch comes paired with a 20mm Bremont leather strap and signed buckle and is sold with its Original Bremont Box, travel case, accessories and Bremont Paperwork.
