The Watch

Here we have a very quirky 2023 Azimuth Mr. Roboto R2 Automatic Retrograde inspired by the clockwork mechanical Japanese Golden Robot of the 1950s, the 47.5mm tonneau-shaped polished and brushed stainless steel case has a forged carbon mid-case and hex screw detailing. On the right side is a key-shaped crown like you would find on the windup Robot, the polished framed 3D eyes consist of a 12-hour register and a 24-hour GMT register each with yellow numerals and a red stick hand, and the mouth holds the Retrograde minutes and at 6 o’clock we have the Azimuth motif engraved, on the reverse a sapphire exhibition case back with the details of the watch and “Domo Arigato!” which is a Japanese phrase meaning “Thanks a lot”, showcasing the automatic Azimuth Cal. 1500.2, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, a modified ETA movement with a “mystery rotor” made of sapphire and an outer weight made of brass. The watch comes paired with its 24mm perforated leather strap with a signed folding deployment clasp, and this watch is sold with its funky Azimuth box, swing tag and original Azimuth paperwork.

Personal Note

I love stocking watches that make your head turn and go "What on earth is that!" This Azimuth Mr. Roboto R2 is exactly one of those watches and it is a true robot on the wrist, featuring retrograde minutes, hours and GMT for eyes and a large winding cog, it truly is something unique and that won't be for everyone, but for the ones who would wear this, it'll bring a huge smile to their face every time they do and that is what a watch is all about! Don't hesitate to book an appointment to see this one for yourself.

The Brand

Azimuth was established in 2003 by Christopher Long, who has a background in mechanical engineering. His unconventional designs are inspired by his childhood fantasies and, with the assistance of Giuseppe Picchi, the Technical Director, a Swiss watchmaker with over 30 years of experience, they are brought to life. The company is located in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The Azimuth logo is an abstract representation of the 'Spiral' or 'Hairspring,' which is the mechanical watch's heartbeat.
