Description

Here is the beautiful collaboration of the 2023 AnOrdain Model 3 Lichen Green Automatic. Back in 2019, AnOrdain met the founders of the innovative Method Studio, where Calum Robinson and his wife, Marisa Giannasi, design and manufacture beautiful, hand-chiselled wooden ash-trunk watch boxes for brands such as Vacheron Constantin and sculpted cases for Johnnie Walker. Featuring a 39mm polished stainless steel round case that comfortably sits on your wrist, thanks to the stunning wrap-around trench-style lugs, similar to the traditional wire lugs of the past. The curved polished flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm. On the right side, a coin-edged signed crown. A stepped, smooth, polished bezel holds a slightly domed sapphire crystal, Ar-coated with three layers of protection. The star of the show is this incredible Method Studio-designed Lichen Green, featuring a chiselled, rippling wood-textured dial. To create this masterpiece, they utilised a light scanner from the Glasgow School of Art to capture the trunk in 3D, which AnOrdain then used to produce a stainless-steel stamp mould for use on a base silver plate. Their spectacular enamelling process is then applied by hand brushing and finally kiln-fired to harden. The purple indices and markings are pad-printed onto the dial, indicating the hours. Their distinctive skeletonised, solid syringe hands have been heated to a purple hue and are complemented by a matching, sweeping second hand. At noon, the AnOrdain motif completes this beautiful timepiece. On the reverse, a screwed-down solid case back, featuring a glacier pattern in the centre, inside an automatic Sellita Cal. SW300, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. It comes paired with two 20mm AnOrdain leather straps and pin buckles. This watch is sold with its original AnOrdain travel case, accessories and paperwork.

Personal Note

Every now and then, a watch comes along that completely stops you in your tracks, and this is one of them. The dial is simply extraordinary. It has an incredible depth and texture that constantly changes as the light moves across it, making every glance at your wrist a little different from the last. What makes it even more special is knowing the process behind it. Method Studio's hand-chiselled ash trunk was digitally captured in 3D before AnOrdain painstakingly recreated the texture in silver, hand-applied layers of enamel, and kiln-fired it to achieve this mesmerising finish. It's a wonderful blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, and the end result is unlike anything else I've seen. To truly appreciate the depth, texture, and richness of the enamel, it really has to be experienced in person. I would not hesitate to book an appointment to see this one for yourself!

About AnOrdain

AnOrdain was created by Glaswegian Architecture graduate Lewis Heath. Heath’s idea was to set up a workshop and start-up watch brand to master the art of Enamel dial making in the Vitreous ``grand feu” tradition. The brand is named after Highland Loch. Based in Glasgow's Templeton building. In 2023, they acquired Pauline Watches, another fascinating Scottish brand, founded by Heath’s wife Charlotte Paulin and her two sisters, and in 2024, they have built a new factory incorporating six watch-making facilities into one space.
