The Watch

Here we have a 2022 Zenith El Primero A384 Revival 37mm 03.A384.400/21.C815, this stunning watch is a reimagined version of their legendary A384 from 1969 which was one of the world's first automatic chronographs, this was made exclusively for the North American market. The 37mm stainless steel tonneau-shaped case curves over your wrist with thick angled lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. Radially brushed and polished bevel edges transition with crisp lines, down the right side we have the piston chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre. A domed sapphire crystal sits above a white panda dial, and a black outer Tachymetre printed in white surrounds a precisely executed minute track with applied chamfer-edged baton indexes marking the hours. Between the 4 and 5 we have a date window, at 3 o’clock 30-minute register, at 6 o’clock a 12-hour register and finally, at 9 o’clock a continuous seconds register each in black with white stick hands and numerals a nice contrast to the white. The broad hands are filled with SuperLumiNova and complemented by a striking red chronograph hand. At 12 o’clock we have the Zenith motif with the El Primero in its distinctive swirling script completing this reimagined revival of the A384. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back showcasing the automatic Zenith El Primero 400, 31 jewels, beating at 36,000 beats per hour, this column-wheel chronograph has a bidirectional skeletonised rotor with the iconic Zenith star and is made up of 278 components. The watch comes paired with its Zenith black 20mm strap with a signed Zenith buckle and the watch comes with its Zenith presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

Anyone who knows me knows my love for Zenith is strong, especially beautiful models like this El Primero A384 Revival 37mm 50th Anniversary! The white dial contrasting with black sundials and a pop of red is undeniably attractive, the case shape on the wrist only adds to this and if I could keep this for myself I totally would! So do me a favour and save me the pain by buying this.

The Brand

Zenith was founded in 1865 by 22-year-old watchmaker Georges Favre-Jacot. Their manufacturing was based in Le Locle Switzerland. Famous Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, who was the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911 and the North Pole in 1926, wore Zenith watches on his expeditions. In 1999 Zenith was purchased by LVMH  (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) joining brands like TAG and Hublot. Zenith is one of the only Swiss manufacturers to still produce their own in-house movements. Their most recognised movement is the El Primero; it was released in 1969, went into production in 1975 and was re-issued in 1986.
