The Watch
Here we have a 2022 Yema LED Yellow Gold Plated Retro YMHF1575-1 AM, a retro reissue of a watch introduced by Yema in the 1970s at a time when the Quartz revolution turned the world's watchmaking industry upside down. The futuristic design is a 3D reproduction of the original, at 37.5mm in yellow gold plated, its barrel shape sits flat on the wrist with stubby lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 42.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. Down the right side, we have the Quartz pushers, polished flanks and brushed faceted top surfaces that add interest as you rotate your wrist. A red mineral LED display remains on stand-by, only shown when you press the 3 o'clock pusher once to show the time to save the battery, a second push will show the current date, and a third push will display the seconds. The watch is set using the 4 o'clock pusher. Deeply engraved in the lower half of the case we have the Yema motif. On the reverse a screw-down stainless steel case back engraved with the details of the watch and the Yema crest in the centre, inside a LED-Quartz movement. The watch comes paired with its Yema 20mm brushed Yellow Gold plated bracelet and signed sliding folding clasp with all links present, this watch is sold with its original Yema signed case and paperwork.

The Brand
Yema was founded in 1948 by Henry Louis Belmont after he came top of his class at the National Watchmaking School of Besancon in 1931. The legend goes that the name Yema was created by a teenager's imagination who entered a competition run by Henry. 1963 saw the introduction of the Yema Superman, essentially made for dive professionals; it had a 300-metre water resistance. Its bezel lock system made it quite unique and was soon adopted by the French Air Force for its pilots. In the 1960s Yema became the leading watch exporter in France selling more than 500,000 watches a year in over 50 countries. In 1982 Yema went to space with Yema Spationaute 1.
