The Watch

Here we have a 2022 Vertex M60 AquaLion No-Date on Bracelet with a brushed 40mm stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with thick tapered lugs, Don has taken his inspiration from the Vertex dive watches of the 1950s and 60s and given them a more contemporary look and feel, using modern materials and technology, and a lug-to-lug length of 49mm and a case thickness of 14mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown with knurling for extra grip. The watch has undergone rigorous tests to achieve ISO 6425 certification which is no mean feat for any watch manufacturer, it shows Vertex will go the extra mile to produce a tool watch worthy of that accreditation. A rotating dive bezel has a matte black ceramic insert, the first 15 minutes highlighted, all coated in Super-LumiNova Grade X1, holding a domed sapphire crystal above a matte black dial. An outer minute track has the characteristic moulded Super-LumiNova X1 batons, and 12, 3, 6 and 9-hour markers as seen on the M100 series, steel sword hands are infilled in Super-LumiNova X1 and complemented by a tapered sweeping second-hand. At 12 o’clock we have the Vertex motif and at 6 o’clock “C.O.S.C. 2000 FT/600 M” in red complete this versatile dive tool watch with all the right credentials for any professional diver or adventurous skin diver. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with an engraved AquaLion Trademark in the centre, inside an automatic Sellita SW300-1, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this workhorse movement has hacking seconds and hand winding for your convenience. The watch comes paired with its 20mm fitted Vertex quick-release brushed stainless steel bracelet with a signed deployment clasp with fliplock, all links are provided, plus an additional fitted 20mm Vertex rubber strap and 20mm Vertex Zulu-style NATO strap with a pin buckle. The watch comes with its Vertex Peli Case and paperwork.

Personal Note

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Vertex M60 AquaLion is the perfect alternative to any Tudor Black Bay, if you are wanting a tool-focused dive watch that just so happens to look incredible and also won't break the bank, this is worth every consideration and even booking an appointment to try it on for yourself! Vertex is going places, I'm excited to see what the future holds.

The Brand

Vertex was the brainchild of Claude Lyons of London born in 1885. At the age of 17, he started his involvement in the watch Industry. With the help of a £1000 loan, he set up Dreadnaught Watches in 1912. In 1915 they were producing watches for the British armed forces during WW1. In 1916 he founded Vertex Watches Ltd in both Hatton Gardens and Switzerland. In 1927 Vertex became the exclusive importer of Movado Watches to the UK. 1938 Henry Lyons Claude's son-in-law joins the company. In 1940 their Hatton Gardens premises were destroyed by a Luftwaffe bomb. In 1941 as a Captain in the British Army Henry was asked to create a watch suitable for the British military. 1944 saw the production of the Cal.59 W.W.W. Nav watch. Business continued successfully throughout the 50s and 60s. Sadly in 1972 due to the emergence of the Quartz revolution and the expiring of his lease in Hatton Gardens, Henry closed the Company. In 2015 Claude’s  Great Grandson Don Cochrane re-established the Company. And the rest is history as they say.
