The Watch

Here we have a 2022 TAG Heuer Aquaracer Automatic Black WAY218A-0 with a 41mm black carbide-coated stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with thick tapered lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 46.5mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, we have a signed screw-down crown with deep knurling for extra grip and protection by crown guards. The multi-faceted unidirectional bezel has a black ceramic insert with a 60-minute dive scale. A flat sapphire crystal sits above a dynamic black dial with a horizontal striped pattern, an outer minute chapter ring surrounds applied trapezoid indexes filled with Super LumiNova marking the hours and at 3 o’clock a framed date window with cyclops magnification, steel sword hands filled with the same luminance complemented by a yellow counterbalance sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock we have the TAG Heuer motif "Aquaracer" and at 6 o’clock a yellow "Calibre 5" "Automatic 300m/1000ft" completes this versatile sports dive watch.  On the reverse, a screw-down case back with a dive helmet in the centre, inside an automatic TAG Heuer Cal. 5, a movement based on either ETA 2824-2 or Sellita SW200-1. It comes paired with its original TAG Heuer 20mm black and yellow stitched fabric strap with a signed push-button released folding clasp. The watch comes with its TAG Heuer presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

The TAG Heuer Aquaracer is often forgotten and left underappreciated in the family lineup of TAG Heuer today. Most go from the F1 straight to the Carrera and onwards, but the Aquaracer is a solid model that offers a ton of value and a great design. This reference WAY218A-0 in 41mm features a lovely black case, dial and bezel, giving it a stealthy look whilst having a subtle pop of yellow throughout. I would add this to your collection today, whilst you can!

The Brand

Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. It features many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the fullest. In 1958, Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company. In 1962, the first generation of Autavia was launched and famously worn in the 1970s by Formula One drivers such as Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi, Clay Regazzoni and Mario Andretti, and many more. They were the sponsor of the 1985 Marlboro McLaren Formula 1 racing team; then, after 30 years, in 2015, they proudly sponsored RED Bull Racing. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A. offered a bid in 1999 that was accepted by TAG Heuer. From 2025, they will return to be the official timekeepers for F1, with LVMH signing a 10-year contract.
